3. 5th Blogoversary Giveaway Extravaganza: Place Your Bids!

Hello everyone! This is the culmination of everything we've celebrated for the last few months, the 5th Blogoversary Giveaway Extravaganza! Here is where I am giving away 30 prizes to you, my blog readers. Cuz prizes are the best part of any birthday. :)

Before we go any further, if you have not completed registration, STOP! Go do it. You cannot win anything before completing that first.

So here's how things will work. As I mentioned in the beginning of September, this will work in a silent auction style, with a slightly modified format. At the end of this form will be 3 Google forms, one for each set of "lots" (aka prizes). Fill in your name and email address. Using the number of points you totaled up in registration, you can then "bid" these points on each prize that you wish. There is one slot for each prize.

For example: Say you earned 30 points. You have 30 points to spend. You really want Lot #201, so you bid 10 points. You have 20 left. So you bid 5 points on Lot #309, 3 points on Lot #107, 1 point on Lot #100, and 1 point on Lot #206. There's your 30 points. You can bid as much or as little on any combination of lots.

The person who bids the highest number of points for each lot will win that prize. In the case of a tie (say 2 people bid 10 points on the same thing) then the winner between those who tied will be picked by random.org.

Rules:

 • You must be registered to bid
 • Auctions will be open from now until 11:59 pm PDT on Saturday October 8th
 • All prizes are open internationally
 • You must provide either your mailing address or country of residence (if you don't want to give your address unless you win)
 • You cannot bid more than the points you earned in registration
Any questions/problems? Let me know and I will update this post as need be. Otherwise, the forms you need to enter are linked below.

Good luck!

4. Blogoversary Extravaganza: Registration Open

Well, it is now officially October 2nd, which means registration for the 5th Blogoversary Extravaganza is now open! Remember, you must complete registration in order to win prizes starting October 5th!

For those of you who want a refresher of how this will work, here you go. 30 prizes are being given away starting October 5th. (Prize preview posts here: one, two, and three). The giveaway is being conducted in a silent auction style, which means you will "bid" for the prizes using points you have earned throughout the blogoversary.

The purpose of registration is to help me know how many points everyone has. This way I can keep track of your bids and make sure that no one bids over their limit. After completing registration, you will know how many points you have to spend come October 5th.

If you are still completing open challenges (some are open until 11:59 on October 3rd), the please wait until you have submitted all your challenge entries before registering. That way you won't have to submit more than once. If you earned any bonus points from your entries, I will total them up and email you to let you know of the change to your point total.

To register, all you have to do is fill out the Google form using the link or entered below. If anyone has problems, please contact me at shadyglade AT mail DOT com and we'll get you entered manually. Any questions? Feel free to let me know.

Good luck!

&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;Loading...&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;lt;/p&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;

5. Blogoversary Giveaway Extravaganza: Prize Preview #3

And here we are at the final prize preview for the Blogoversary Giveaway Extravaganza. Here I am presenting the final 10 prizes that will be given away starting October 5th. More info can be found on the introduction page, and details will be coming soon. Don't forget registration on October 2nd!

If you missed the previous prize previews, you don't know what kind of awesome prizes you're missing. Check out the first and second posts to see what else you'll have to choose from.

Lot #300: Graphic Novel Mystery Box
By now, you should recognize the wrapped ribbon boxes. It means it's another mystery box! After four years on the graphic novels nominations committee, I've had a lot of graphic novels come and go in my house. Plus, I've found plenty of graphic novels on my own too. So if you like graphic novels, or wanting to give them a try, this is the prize for you. I've got traditional comics, unique art styles, manga, color, black and white, and a mix of all genres/ages/bindings. The winner of this lot will get at least six books (probably more) many in new/like new condition.

Lot #301: Dark Divine Nail Polish
You may have recognized this prize from contests past. Well, in cleaning out my shelves the other day I found I still have a bit left. This lovely fuchsia purple/pink shade has been perfectly matched to the color of the The Dark Devine by Bree Despain. So now you can paint your nails just like the model on the cover! This lot includes two bottles, one for you and one for you to share (or keep for yourself, whatever you want :).

Lot #302: History Prize Pack
Now don't run anywhere when you hear the word history. This pack actually includes a couple good books. For those of you who do Twitter, what do you think history would look like in 140 characters or less? Well, you can find out in Historical Tweets by by Alan Beard and Alec McNayr. And then if you like to take a more *ahem* accurate version of history, this pack also includes Don't Know Much About History: Everything You Need to Know About American History but Never Learned by Kenneth C. Davis. So you should be pretty well covered in the history department.

6. Blogoversary Giveaway Extravaganza: Prize Preview #2

If you missed it yesterday, don't forget to check out the first Prize Preview post. There's some more details about how this contest will work so if you haven't seen it, make sure you don't miss it. And here's another reminder that these open blogoversary challenges close soon, so this is your last chance to earn extra points to win the fantastic prizes below:

Lot #200: Mystery ARC box
In the same vein as yesterday, this is a mystery prize box. I've got a lot of ARCs laying around the house recently, and it's time to send them off to new homes where they are enjoyed. The winner of this lot will get at least 6 ARCs, some more recent, some older, and all genres/ages. Will you get more? What will be in the box? It's a mystery, you'll have to win it to find out.

Lot #201: Handmade Pumpkin Bookmark
I love bookmarks, and I love making them just a much. The winner of this lot will get this lovely pumpkin bookmark. Okay, so it looks a little different. The colors aren't variegated like this, but otherwise it is the same pattern (this is the only picture of this pattern I had). The bookmark is hand stitched by me, and it's perfect for those fall afternoons spent reading.

Lot #202: Tamora Pierce Prize Pack
A blogoversary celebration with my favorite things wouldn't be complete without Tamora Pierce books. The winner of this lot will win a box of assorted Tamora Pierce titles. They aren't in order, and there's some from several different series (although all of them are Tortall books). This would be a great prize if you're considering going for the Tamora Pierce Reading Challenge. These books are gently used paperbacks.

Lot #203: The Man You'll Marry by Debbie Macomber
Here's a prize for those of you who sometimes get sick of YA and want to venture into adult books. In addition to share some of my favorite books, my mom wanted to donate a book by one of her favorite au

7. Blogoversary Giveaway Extravaganza: Prize Preview #1

I was thinking about the upcoming Giveaway Extravaganza that will wrap up the blogoversary activities, and I realized something. Although I told you how the giveaway will work, I haven't given you any idea of the prizes! So over the next three days, I will be posting "prize previews" so that you can see all 30 prizes (aka auction lots) for the giveaway.

If you're new to the blog or the blogoversary, you can read all about the Giveaway Extravaganza here. Basically, it will proceed like a silent auction and you earn points to "bid" with by completing challenges/tasks. The breakdown of how you can earn points is on the details post, and also check out this post for links to all the additional active challenges.

As a reminder, everyone will need to register for the giveaway to win these prizes. Registration opens October 2nd and auctions will start October 5th. But enough of details, you want to see the prizes, right?

Lot #100: YA Mystery Box
Everyone loves a good mystery right? Well, here's one for you... what's in this box? This box includes a mix of YA books of all bindings, genres, release dates (recent and not so recent) and conditions (new and old). How many books will you get? Well, at least six, but beyond that, it's a mystery!

Lot #101: Recycled Book Purse
Okay, so it's not this exact book purse (I got this picture from Google images), but you get the idea. I just learned how to make these cool little bags out of recycled hardcover books. Aren't they cute? The inside is lined with fabric and creates the perfect little tote that will get lots of envious looks and compliments. As soon as I finish the one I'm working on, it will be offered to the winner of this lot.

Lot #102: Paranormal/Fantasy pack
Kind of a weird combination, and yet somehow they work together. The winner of this lot will get two gently used paperback books: a copy of Dragon's Bait by Vivian Vande Velde and a copy of Sunshine by Robin McKinley. Both stories were groundbreaking in that they re-imagined the creatures they are about long before such stories became popular (ie pre-Twilight vampires).

Today's prize is a great one for those of you who love to write. It's a spiral bound Mary Engelbreit notebook/journal. It has a yellow plaid cover with a cute little black Scottie dog with a Christmas wreath and says "Merry Christmas" at the bottom. There are 80 lined pages inside. Isn't this adorable? I love it. The person who wins this prize will have the option of either keeping it, or trading it in for a chance at a different mystery prized during Holiday Let's Make A Deal starting December 20th.

To enter today's contest, tell me which book this cover clip belongs to:

Just enter your answer in the form below for your chance to win. If you aren't sure what cover this is (this one is a little difficult) then you can use one of your two Wild Cards to still enter for today's prize. We're moving away from book prizes for today. The winner of today's contest will get a set of 3 mini flower magnets. They're made of rubber, about 1 inch in diameter and super cute. There's a pink flower, a purple flower, and a blue flower included in the set. I have some of these hanging on my magnetic board by my desk and I love them. Or the winner can choose to trade this prize in for a mystery prize during our game of Holiday Let's Make A Deal starting December 20th.

It's Day 5 of the 2010 The 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway-A-Day. If you haven't already, make sure you've reviewed the rules so you know how to play the game.

Since this series of contests is inspired by the 12 Days of Christmas carol, I thought today's prize would be fun to include. It's a gently used paperback copy of The Twelve Days of Christmas by Regina Scott. I started reading this after Christmas last year, and it's a very cute historical Christmas romance. The winner for today's contest will have the choice to either keep this prize, or trade it in for a different mystery prize in our game of Holiday Let's Make A Deal.

18. Rules for 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway-A-Day 2010

Now that this year's A Shady Glade Christmas is well underway, it's time for contests! Last year I introduced a contest I called the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway-A-Day. I'm happy to announce it is back this year. But we're going to do it a little differently. This year the theme is "Holiday Let's Make a Deal".

How to Play:

Every day for the next 12 days (Dec 6 through Dec 17) I'll be posting a new contest. Each day will feature a small clip from a book cover. To enter, identify what book cover has been posted for that day. Extra entries are also available (see below).

Each person will have the chance to use 2 Wild Cards. These can be used for a contest where you don't know the answer, but want to enter anyway. Choose wisely though, since you only will get 2!

Prizes:

Each contest will feature a prize of some sort assigned to that day. At the end of the contest period (Dec 19 at midnight) winners will be chosen from among each day's entries.

Once a winner has been declared, they have a chance to play Holiday Let's Make A Deal. Each of the 12 winners will have a chance to either keep the prize they won on their day, or trade up for a mystery prize.

If you've ever seen the game show Let's Make A Deal, you kind of know how this goes. Winners can either trade their prize to pick a box from the list with a new mystery prize, or keep the one they've already won. Some of the mystery prizes will be big, and some will be more silly, but you won't know what you've got until after you've made your decision.

I won't give away all the mystery prizes (that would ruin the fun) but I will reveal two of them. There will be two big boxes of ARCs and other miscellaneous books. One for YA books, and one for younger (more middle grade) titles. Each will include at least 6 books and possibly more if I get lots of participation. The books included are a surprise, but let's just say I have quite a few 2011 ARCs hanging around right now looking for new homes...

Extra Entries:

You can gain extra entries into any contest by doing the following:
+5 (one time) for submitting a guest post
+1 (for each contest) for grabbing the A Shady Glade Christmas button. You can find it in the right sidebar.
+1 for posting about the contests (sidebar, blog, twitter, etc.)
+1 for following

Other Miscellaneous Rules:

Because of the time-sensitive nature of the game (I'd like to mail the prizes before Christmas if possible), winners will be expected to respond within 24 hours to claim prizes or new winners will be chosen. So make sure you check back on Monday, December 20th to see if you won. Otherwise you may loose your chance to win big.

Contests are open internationally unless otherwise specified.

Winners will be notified by email and will need to reply with their mailing address in order to win prizes.

And that's about it. Good luck to everyone, and come back tomorrow to let the winning begin!

20. Oops, I forgot. We have winners!

Yeah, so I had these two contests a loooong time ago, but as I'm shuffling things around for my move next week, I noticed these prizes sitting here unclaimed. So here we go.

The three winners of The Dark Divine Nail Polish are:
Robin K
Ann Diana Dinh
Lindsay's Photographys

And the winner of the ARC of The Reluctant Heiress is:
Lisa R

Winners, please email me your addresses at shadyglade(AT)mail(DOT)com within the next 72 hours. That way I can ship your packages before I leave for the summer!

And speaking of comment contests...

You may have noticed I didn't do a comment contest for May or April. With my move to Florida for the summer and my time being spent on the book battle, I haven't been on top of those things like I normally am. But as soon as I come back, the contests will resume! In the meantime I'll try to do better about weekly contest roundups, since I've been neglecting those lately too...

21. Need a button

All of you creative graphics people out there, listen up. I'm painfully poor at creating buttons, and I need one for the upcoming YA Bloggers Debut Book Battle. And since I'm so not creative when it comes to button making, this is where you come in.

But wait! There's incentive. :-) I have a copy of Golden by Cameron Dokey, a copy of Never Bite a Boy on the First Date, or a Beautiful Creatures t-shirt that I'll send to the person who makes the button we use. So if more than one person submits one, then the one we use gets it.

So get out there and be creative! I'm open as far as design goes, but I would like it to say "Debut Book Battle" on there somewhere at least. Any other writing is fine too, just go with what you think looks best.

If possible, if you could please have them to me by April 8th that would be great!

Email me at shadyglade(AT)mail(DOT)com with your entries or your questions.

Good luck!

23. Recreate a Cover Contest

Cindy from Princess Bookie is having a Contest Craze again, which includes once again a Recreate a Cover contest. Now normally I don't do things like this, because I have absolutely no talent. However, while looking at the other entries I got a really good idea for a cover, and so I bit the bullet, opened up Photoshop and started playing around. I have never, ever used Photoshop (or a similar program) before so this was completely new territory for me.

SEVEN HOURS LATER I have a result. Before I show it to you, head over to Princess Bookie if you want to do your own entry. But hurry, since it's filling up fast! Only the first 50 will count, and I managed to squeak in by number 46.

The rules stated that it has to be a redesign of a 2010 release, and I chose the upcoming addition to the Once Upon a Time Series out in June called The World Above by Cameron Dokey. Here's the original cover on the left:

The series got a make over last year with these new photographic covers. They're slowly redoing the old ones, but the four newest books in the series have this new style instead of the beautiful old Kinuko Craft covers each book used to have.

Although I like the new covers, I really miss the Kinuko Craft ones. (The very first Kinuko Craft ones I should say, since even her covers got remodeled after a few years.) So I had the brilliant idea to recreate one of the 2010 releases for the series with a Kinuko Craft cover. Here's an example of one of the older covers (on the right) so you get an idea of the model I was attempting to immitate.

Ta-Da!

My Redesigned Cover

So obviously it's not as good as the real Kinuko Craft covers. Not even close, actually. But considering this was my very first attempt at doing anything at all in Photoshop, I'm pretty proud of myself. There's a lot more detail for the actual covers, but considering I'm a beginner and I don't have endless hours to waste doing things like this, I really like the result. The hardest part was adding the texture, which took me a #$*! long time to figure out.

I'm not very happy with the middle either (where the title is) but I k
