I don't normally take a month off from blogging, and can't believe how that much time has managed to just slip away from me - but it's the summer holidays, and we went as a family to Italy, and although I DID take my sketchbook and watercolours with me with all the best intentions, obviously that didn't quite work out. We walked everywhere which was wonderful but by the end of the day were absolutely exhausted.
"Appreciate This Moment". It's the most important moment of our lives, wouldn't you agree? If we don't value it we screw up a past that we're in the very act of creating, and walk blindly into a future that's composed of an infinitude of more 'present moments'.
I'm a bit late with this, I know, and I apologise profusely for that and hope that you'll bear with me while I catch up on work and art and life in general. As always, it's available as a free printable exclusively to subscribers of the Floating Lemons monthly newsletter. Cheers.
"Coffee makes it possible to get out of bed. Cupcakes make it worthwhile." - unknown author.
I worked on this yesterday, so haven't had a chance to properly clean it up. You're getting pretty much the raw deal here! I'd normally finish it off by moving around and smoothing out the words and letters, but as I haven't the time at the moment, here's what I've managed to complete so far ...
I started off with a very rough pencil sketch in my Moleskine squared journal:
The quotation seemed perfect for my Coffee Cupcake illustration, so I printed it out and glued it on as a guide around which the text would flow. I then inked it in, ready for scanning:
This is the scan, and here's where I'd work on the final cleanup, the icing on the cake if you will, and the addition of decorative elements. Not done. Let's hope it still tastes good:
I'm looking at it here and can see all the mistakes I'd love to fix ... making some of the text less angular, some of the spaces between words less awkward ... when I finally get around to it I'll post the cleaned version! Right now it's time for my second cup of morning coffee. Cupcakes, anyone? Cheers.
I'm now going to (try to!) take a few days off to clear clutter, relax and renew myself. I'll be back on the 3rd, ready for new challenges!
Resolutions? To spend more time drawing and painting this coming year ... what about you?
I hope you have a wonderful New Year with your loved ones, and that the coming year will be filled with much positive thought and action and be a fulfilling one for us all. Cheers.
This was actually doodled some time ago. I've resurrected it and finally cleaned it up, so here are both the original Happy Birthday very rough text design sketch and the final cleaned up version I worked on this week:
I liked it! Curls and all. So I tried it out in some of the trend colours for next year, in Poppy Red, Dusk Blue and Emerald Green, to see how it would look ...
What do you think? Fun and cheerful? Would you buy those on cards for someone celebrating a birthday? I think I would ... so I'm going to put it up at the stores once the festive season celebrations are over with :) Cheers.
