I read a lot of author interviews, but every now and then one will stand out as being particularly fabulous. I found two such interviews this week:
An fun, informative interview with Lisa Yee, author of Millicent Min, Girl Genius.
An intriguing, wonderful-in-every-way interview with N. D. Wilson, author of Leepike Ridge and 100 Cupboards.

100 Cupboards, another novel (two in one year! whew!) from the author of Leepike Ridge, is the first book in a new fantasy trilogy.Henry York has come to stay with his cousins, aunt and uncle in Henry, Kansas. Everything seems normal enough, until Henry wakes one morning to find a few cupboards coming out of the plaster in his bedroom. What he and one of his cousins discover could unlock an evil that is centuries old.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the author's writing style - 100 Cupboards has down-to-earth and humorous moments similar to Leepike Ridge. It was certainly darker than Leepike, though. The characters had a comforting, timeless sort of feel to them; they are the sort of people that anyone could know. 100 Cupboards is imaginative and tantalizing, leaving you wanting more of these mysterious new worlds.
*slight spoiler* Admittedly there were a few spots I had quips with. For instance, when Henry found out his parents weren't his birth parents, I thought his reaction would be stronger. That was sort of glazed over. Not a real biggie though. *end spoiler*
This was such a fun read. Just a word of advice: Don't read this book late into the night . . . I became a little freaked out. ;) Alas though, a cliff-hanger ending. Now all I have to say is: Gimme the sequel! When does Dandelion Fire, the second in this trilogy, come out?!
Love that Lisa Yee interview so I linked you on my page, hope you don't mind. :) Oh yeah, nice background!
Thanks for pointing those out, Erin! I really enjoyed them! Such good questions and answers!
Thanks for the kind words about the interview, Erin!
The Lisa Yee interview is great. Thanks!
Glad you liked the interview with Nate Wilson. I'm so jealous that you got an 100 Cub. ARC. Your blog is great ... kind of frightening how many of the same people we visit. How are you liking Verdigris Deep? WAAAY different than Fly By Night. (is that the US cover? Is it finally here?)
Noel
Hey Noel--thanks for your comment! I hope you like 100 Cupboards. I am LOVING Verdigris Deep. It is rather different from Fly By Night, and I think the author's writing has improved. I'm pretty sure it's out in the US now, although I *am* reading a UK copy. I'm not sure which cover that is...it's not the cover on Amazon OR Amazon.uk...but it's cool!
The writing is certainly tight. I was a little weirded out by the end, as was my teenage tester brother. No spoilers, though.
Noel
!!! I am definitely curious...
Just saw this at Betsy Bird's ...
"...[Hardinge's] newest looks like it may break through the kid-friendly barrier. Well Witched (formerly Verdigris Deep in England until they decided that Americans have a hard time saying "verdigris") is the tale of some kids, a well, wishes, and the problems that follow. The description sounded a bit like Five Children and It by E. Nesbit, which makes me wonder if the rather British Hardinge is a Nesbit fan. Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Anywho, color this my number one anticipated choice of 2008. It appears to be due on shelves in June (sorry, folks) so I'll be applying some serious wheeling and dealing in order to get my hands on an early copy."
Can you believe that?!? Though the new title does fit with the weirding out I mentioned.
Are you a Nesbit fan, btw? (please say yes) Enchanted Castle forever!
Noel
Argh, I hate when they change titles. :( I prefer Verdigris Deep much more.
Are you kidding? I am a HUGE Nesbit fan!
