Inspired by some recents visits to a place called Marburg. My personal view of observation is that sometimes it's best used through the filter of memory. I think we somehow distill what was important to us in the subject when we recall it from past observation. When the subject is in front of us the details can be overwhelming.
Waiting for a train one day, the faint sound of an Irish flute started to waft into the platforms. With the usual hiss and grind of trains coming and going, this music couldn't have been more out of place. I eventually found the source. It was this man (drawn here from memory) hiding behind a pillar. Who would have thought a little bit of magic could creep into such a mundane daily routine? Thanks mr. flute player :)
Click on drawings to view and read. Actually it's probably better that you don't.
A couple more spreads from my travel themed Moleskine. More nonsense that I find flows quite freely out of my pen. I never read this stuff back. I can't sleep if I'm close to finishing a drawing, and as I put the words in last, it usually means I'm writing them late at night. Very late. Which is why it rarely makes sense. You can see the set, so far, HERE.
I wonder if any of you guys could help me out. I'm looking for some stamps to use in this book. If anyone, from outside the UK, could send me a postage stamp - or just send me a postcard, because used stamps are good - I'll put a Moo, or two, in the mail back to you (yes, poetry is another of my talents. Not.). Please leave a comment and I'll be in touch. Cheers, my dears.
....with a little help from my friends (you know, I only ever speak in song lyrics these days). So, a little while back I asked if anybody fancied colouring in my black and white drawings of this girl. And to my amazement some of you did! And, with the most fabulous results, too. Way better than my attempt. So here goes...
Kathleen (age; post adolescent):

Hannah (age; 10 years):
Beth (age; 9):
Jeanne (age; 60):
Gianluca (age; 29):
Andrea Joseph (age; no spring chicken):
And, finally...
Lara the cat. Age; what's it got to do with you?

Thank you all so much for taking part, guys. I'm chuffed to bits.
These two drawings are a kind of memory drawings. Well, the idea is from a memory I've just kind of updated it a bit. Used a bit of creative license. I remember as a kid being told to go and tidy the living room which would have been full of toys and books and stuff. I would pull the settee out and pile absolutely everything in the room behind the settee then push it back into place. You see, creative even back then.
So, this girl has been told to tidy up, and that's what she's done. In her way.

These drawings are crying out for me to colour them in. I really love monochromatic drawings. I am never that happy when I add colour, but with these I really feel the urge. So you might just be seeing them again, sometime in the near future.
Kids, (big and small) you have my permission to print these off and colour them in yourselves. You have to let me see the results though. And, I might just post them.

I can't believe you came to Portugal and you missed out the famous Chicken Piri-Piri from Guia! That's the name you can“t remebember, right? Well, I hope you've learned a lesson "Don't leave the best for last". The good thing though, is that now you'll have to come back.
I love your work. Best wishes from a dedicated follower of your blog and art,
Helena

hi Andrea, I have just re-discovered your blog after being out of the loop for a little while. I'm always impressed by the order and clarity of your work, and I love reading the little anecdotes! I know exactly what you mean about foreign supermarkets. It's an unsettlingly seductive pass-time! Glad I popped back in- your drawings are very engaging (and extremely good!) :)
These are excellent, as always!
here's a fan from portugal! :)
