1. My Man--Happy Valentine's!

I lifted these questions off my sister, Lisa's, blog (Hope you don't mind, Lis.) in honor of Valentine's and all the lovey-dovey, honey-bunny stuff.

-What is his full name? Robert Beeson...although, much to his family's chagrin, I renamed him Robby.

-How long have you been married? 6 1/2 years...is that long enough to stop counting halves?

-How long did you date? We dated 2 months, and then we were engaged for 4. We married 6 months and a day after we met.

-Who eats more sweets? Him...especially lately.

-Who said I love you first? Well, he did...but it was kind of a pivotal moment, and I totally put him on the spot and asked if he loved me. Thank goodness he did. That could have been awkward.  :)

-How old is he? 30. And I'll never let him forget it.

-Who is taller? Definitely him...by about 7 inches. My mom always said I needed to marry into some tall genes.

-Who is smarter? He thinks he is. Lets not tell him the truth.   :)

-Who can sing better? I'm the singer. I think he has a good voice. He's just not very confident about it...not that I am...ahem.

-Who does the laundry? Me. I think Husband may have done it once. Maybe twice. Oh, how I loathe laundry!

-Who pays the bills? This is a responsibility we split up.

-Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? Husband.

-Who mows the lawn? Hahahaha. Like I've ever done anything that manly. Well, once I tried, actually...but apparently I'm not very good at the turns, so he took over. Same goes for snow shoveling. Not my thing.

-Who cooks dinner? We trade off. I usually do when Robby's at work, but he does it a lot when he's home.

-Who drives? Husband. He calls me the human compass...and trust me, it's not to be flattering. Just last week, I got lost actually. I always have.

This one time, I was lost in the middle of some orchards trying to get to a party. I called my friend to see if she could help. She told me that the house was right under the moon. "Follow the moon," she said. So, I did...until the moon was straight ahead and I had to turn right or left. After losing a hub cap and following the moon for hours, I found my way out of the orchard and drove home.

Okay. That was a tangent. Back to the task at hand.

-Who is more stubborn? Stubborn? Oh, no. Definitely neither.  :) Umm. Next question.

-Who kissed who first? He kissed me, but we tell the story differently. His story is a lot more fun, albeit, untrue. He says I hung on his leg while he was trying to leave, saying, 'I'm not letting you go until you kiss me."

-Who asked who out? Neither. It was a blind date. After that, we were inseparable.

-Who proposed? Ahhh. He did. Good times. Good times.

-Who has more siblings? We each have three. He has 3 sisters who whipped him into shape. I have 2 bros and 1 sis.

-Who wears the pants? Interesting question. Isn't marriage a partnership? It's all give-and-take. Although I think Robby may be better at give-give-giving.

Have a fantastic day! Even if you are single today. Everyone is loved by someone. Even if the only someone is God.

PS. Feel free to lift these questions if you want.

2. file library weddings under…?

Scott Douglas is getting married and sent out library-themed invites that I am sure you will find charming. Meanwhile, Offbeat Bride has a post about Raina’s $600 library themed wedding that I think will also put a smile on your face. [thanks sharyn!]

3. Anniversary

Twenty-one years ago today! I loved you first: but afterwards your love, Outsoaring mine, sang such a loftier song As drowned the friendly cooings of my dove. Which owes the other most? My love was long, And yours one moment seemed to wax more strong; I loved and guessed at you, you construed me And loved me for what might or might not be-- Nay, weights and measures do us both a wrong. 4. books change lives

This isn’t specifically about libraries, but I know that many librarians consider Neil Gaiman a member of our tribe, since he’s so bloggeriffic and knowledgeable and appreciative of our profession. So, I thought you’d enjoy this story about how Neil Gamain pitched in to help scifi fan Jason propose to his girlfriend during a book signing event. Here’s Jason’s blog post explaining how it all went down. Neil Gaiman says it was his favourite bit of his visit to the Phillipines. [mefi]

5. Slightly Dangerous by Mary Balogh

The last of the Bedwyn stories and the one that I have been looking forward to the most.  This is the story of the Duke of Bewcastle who, up until this book, has been portrayed as a cold, arrogant man with little feeling for his siblings (except at rare moments when he can’t seem to help himself)  It is obvious that he has been deeply hurt and needs love.  Enter Christine Derrick, a widow and person who lives life to the fullest.  Disasters seem to follow her everywhere and Wulfric seems to be the one who is always saving her.  Despite himself he seems to be falling for her.  So he offers for her to be his mistress.  She is appalled and tells him so.  More time passes and they are thrown together in a lot of different ways.  Is Wulfric’s heart thawing or will he always have ice for a heart?

6. Slightly Scandalous by Mary Balogh

Another of the Bedwyn’s but Freyja Bedwyn, the older sister, is a little bit more rough and tumble than Morgan.  Freyja goes to Bath to escape the birth of the son of her formerly betrothed neighbor.  She meets a veritable rapscallion and proceeds to have the time of her life with him.  Meanwhile, Joshua Moore thinks he will be bored to tears in Bath, but after meeting Freyja knows that is not going to happen.  They decide to enter into a fake engagement on a lark, but soon it looks like it might become all too real.  That is if the Duke of Bewcastle, Freyja’s brother,  has anything to say about it.  I don’t care as much for Freyka as I did for her siblings; she is a little too rough around the edges, but it is a good story.

7. Lupus: Marriage, Family, and Sexuality

Daniel J. Wallace, M.D., is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the David Gefen School of Medicine at UCLA based at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. In The Lupus Book: A Guide for Patients and Their Families 3rd ed. Wallace provides an accessible guide to what can be a very confusing disease, providing up-to-date information and advice to living a happier life with Lupus. In the excerpt below Wallace looks at how marriages suffer when one spouse has been diagnosed with Lupus.

Darleen and George were happily married for 5 years when Darleen was diagnosed with SLE. George had grown up with learning difficulties and had had limited educational opportunities. Darleen tried to tell him what lupus was, but he didn’t seem to pay attention. When Darleen was put on steroids and gained 20 pounds, George made fun of her appearance. One night her joints were so swollen that she couldn’t even get into the car to go to George’s friends’ house for dinner. George said that her joints looked OK to him and started yelling at her. Over the next few months, George started drinking heavily and lost interest in sex. Darleen was scared to talk to him, and one day he just didn’t come home. (more…)

8. Slightly Married by Mary Balough

Colonel Aidan Bedwyn makes a promise to a dying officer to tell said officer’s sister the news of his death and to protect her.  Upon arriving to do so, Aidan finds a motley household filled with lame ducks, well except for Eve Morris.  Eve, though shocked at her brother’s death, refuses help from Aidan.  However, Aidan discovers that she will be tuned out of her house, along with her assorted lame ducks, unless she marries in 4 days.  So he proposes to do just that.  And she accepts.  They expect to marry for convenience and never see each other again afterwards, but Aidan’s brother, Duke Wulfric Bedwyn, has other ideas  Soon Eve is being introduced to the ton and learning about her husband in new and interesting ways.

A fluffy fun read.  Just the thing after a long week.  And there are more about the Bedwyns!  I just love that, don’t you?
