When Marianne and Felix came to visit, Emma immediately chose Felix as her new best friend.
We had never had her around children before because the SPCA had a feeling she wouldn't be good with them. I've always felt quite the opposite because she lights up when she hears kids voices and tends to pull towards them. Still, when asked if a kid can pet her I stay on the safe side and say it's not a good idea.
Seeing her interact with Felix and play with him daily really warmed my heart! I knew she'd have withdrawl after he left because he gave her so much attention and he was so gentle with her.
Here she is this morning curled up with her squirrel toy Felix bought for her.
She loves her squirrely!!!
I saw this card in a shop in Provincetown and I bought it to send to Felix from Emma. When I got it home I decided to make it look like Emma by adding a bit of paint here and there, and as you can see I also drew in her squirrely!
So here you have it, a plumper version of Emma but the sentiment was surely there.
She squashes her ears down like this when she's troubled :(
Thank you Marianne for scanning it because I

Hello friends! Despite all the rumors, I have not fallen off the planet. I have been without my trusty old PC for five days now and I have no access to images from my laptop. It's times like these I wish I were a geek. Sort of. Let's not get carried away!
I'm using this post to talk about the wonderful visit from Marianne and her unbelievably Buddah-esque son, Felix. Even my dog was charmed. Not one YIP or NIP or even a bark. That's a first!
Okay, so up top is a picture of my humble room. It's simple but I find solace there.
This is where Marianne and Felix stayed for the few days they were in Rhode Island.
Every guest should be greeted by a welcome note and a box of sweet treats ;)

Brian took Felix to his first ever American baseball game!
Felix isn't smiling for the stranger that took this photo, but I can tell you that he said the game was the highlight of his trip!
ooops, kind of a small photo but here you can see the boys "in the home stretch" watching a Red Sox game. Felix even called a homerun before the guy hit the ball!!

What I love about this patterned paper is often times it can be as it is. For instance, this little bluebird is sitting in the middle of a mandala shaped design. All I did was write this in the middle..."This little birdie brings a message of love from lolo in Rhode Island to Marianne in the Netherlands."

The larger piece of paper (because it overlaps the first) is filled with these wonderful organic shapes like flowering branches. I wanted to put a raven in there but I think a Red-Winged Blackbird is quite a better choice this time. Besides, he's such a hopeful sign of Spring!
I colored in some shapes here and there to give this side more color.
There you have it. Now tomorrow it will go to Joss!

Have any of you been following the ArtySoulSister's Journals? What a blast this has been!
Marianne has asked that her sleek black cat, Sjimmie be featured on all of our pages for her journal. I've been waiting for him and apparantly so has my cat, Bliss!

Who's that behind the stained glass window? It's a kitty out in the cold snow. Wait...it's Sjimmie!!
He finally made his long journey from the Netherlands to Rhode Island!
After we brought him in from the cold he ate a good meal, groomed himself and snuggled up to Bliss. Even Emma the crazy dog was enjoying his company!
The three new pals spent a lot of time in the studio because they love the sunlight in there.
Sjimmie kept looking at the beautiful birth mandala his mother Marianne made for me.
I could tell he was getting homesick.
It was hard saying goodbye to him but he knows he can come back anytime.
Please bring your mother next time Sjimmie!

Now he's on his way with a first class ticket to London to see Joss. Once she adds her pages he'll be going home to tell Marianne about his many adventures!
Bye-bye Sjimmie!! It's been so much fun spending time with you ;)

Hopefully I'll get the back pages done soon!! Stay tuned...

Such an awesome card!
What a cute idea to doctor up a store bought card!!! Genius! I know Emma misses Felix...isn't it great how well they got along???
Poor Emma! I have to comfort my dogs every time my grandkids leave...and it takes awhile at times. I'm so glad he has Squirrely, with Felix's smell on him, to comfort her. And maybe Felix might come back to visit...one never knows!
You know, I've never thought of personalizing cards. You've given me inspiration! I know what you mean about the ears...exactly like Lucky's (my dog) during sad times. Sweet Emma. Please give her a hug for me.
Wow, sounds like the visit was a success!
How sweet that Emma got along so well with Felix. What a cute card you got. How did you change the colors without ruining the card. It looks perfect. Very Clever of you in fact.
You have been such a social butterfly. Flitting from one engagement to another. What a fun summer. You will remember the heat and all your visitors. That Felix is a special young man. Emma knew this. Cute card and very personal with your touches.

Such a sweet post! Love the pic of Emma with her squirrely and your card - it looks just like her! Glad you liked Simon's Cat in the box - yes, my favourite part too when he tries to look cool - we call that 'the embarrased lick'!
So precious. Enjoyed all the photos and info on Marianne's visit, it appears y'all had a spectacular time, that is so wonderful. I hope you are doing well. I miss being in touch with everyone, somehow, must find my mojo and get things in order. Take care.
How creative and clever of you! I love this beautiful post about such a special boy and dog. I am so touched by it all.
(LOVE Felix's comments) :)

lori
great idea and great card. That Emma does look lonely. I'm glad she's got her squirrely to remind her of happy days playing with Felix.
Felix and Emma both special people. How lovely that Felix brought out Emma's childlike heart. Cute idea to revise the card too.
What a dear story. I love what you did with the card, altering it like that. On to my next post now as I do some catching up.
