1. Bookanistas: The Royal Treatment

Winner of Moonglass is Jenna Wallace!

email me your address at [email protected].

Okay so I've gone a little overboard on the book recs this week but it was a stellar week and I like to support authors on their release days esp. when I've read the books and
liked them!

And I will say, I do not recommend a book I don't love. And trust me, the Bookanistas get tons of books so the ones we stand behind are the ones we like. We do not push books just because we might
know the author.

Now for The Royal Treatment!

Have you guys read Princess For Hire by Lindsey Leavitt. It truly is Meg Cabot meets magic. The Royal Treatment is the sequel. Now I adore this series for middle graders/tweens. It's cute and clever. Well, and let's face it - it also has glitter, princesses, and bubbles in it. Who could ask for more?

Except... Lindsey gives soooo much more in this series.

Her downright hilarious humor. Now, I happen to know her very well a

2. Cover Stories: Sean Griswold's Head by Lindsey Leavitt

SeanGriswoldsHead RGB.jpgLindsey Leavitt is a member of The Contemps (along with me) and her new book, Sean Griswold's Head, is a super fun read. Hear more about what I thought at The Contemps blog.

For now, we're gonna talk covers! Here's Lindsey:

"It all started with a head.

"Sean Griswold's Head, to be exact. When I started writing this book, I knew I wanted the story to be about that boy--the one who is always there, the one you know nothing about, except maybe that he wears the same shirt every Thursday, or peed his pants two days in a row in second grade. feed.jpgSo I always pictured Sean's head when I thought of the cover. Kind of like Feed by MT Anderson (right), but with hair.

"I shared this with my editor when we first broached cover design, and she said, great! But we do want to play up the romance angle, so we'll think about it. I never considered the romance to be the focus of the story, but I figured... cool. Give him a HOT head then. Hot heads sell.

Image 1 SGH.jpg"But then I got an email that sales wasn't sure the title would work. We went back and forth for a few months, brainstorming titles. It's an aggravating process--there were some possibilities I liked, but nothing felt right. At one point, my publisher was leaning toward THE SEAN GRISWOLD PROJECT. Here is one cover comp that design came up with that my editor just now sent me (left). I'm glad we didn't use this. I can say that now, right?

"I trusted my publisher, but I was still feeling down about the title madness..."

3. Princess For Hire

Magical rouge, tiaras, and exotic locations. Sounds like a fun job, right? Desi Bascomb longs for some glamour in her Idaho life. Then one day a woman steps out of an iridescent bubble and asks if she'd like to take on such an assignment. Desi has a rare magical ability. When she applies some "Royal Rouge" she can transform into the exact look-alike of any princess who needs her help. But the transformation is only temporary. What should Desi do? Princess for Hire is one of those stories that's sure to make you smile. Read more of my review at YABC.

4. Tweaking and Tomatoes

I have spent the last three weeks madly tweaking and perfecting KISS & TELL. And I must say, it is a thing of beauty. (literally, it's chock full o' makeup)

I was planning on going to the fair this week as a reward for all of my work but it was rained out, darnit! So, what did I do? What any good southern gal does of course, I baked! And the object of my affection was none other than a Tomato Pie.

A tomato pie can only be made in the summer and requires few ingredients, so I suggest you try one of your own. I don't like to use a recipe but you can google and find loads. Here is what I do.

First, I slice about 4 tomatoes and let 'em drain in a colander in the sink. You can salt them at this point which helps with the draining. While that's happening, I pre-bake a deep dish crust at 400 for 10 minutes. I stab it with a fork a few times first.

Then I go tweak my book or email or something.

After a few hours, when the maters are all dry, I sprinkle some parmesan cheese in the bottom of the cooled crust and layer them suckers in there. Be sure to toss in some fresh basil. The kind in the jar will NOT do. It must be fresh. And then, for the top, I just combine some shredded sharp cheese (about 2 cups) and a cup of mayo and spread it around.

I also shake some pepper in somewhere, and green onions if I feel like it (which is not often).

That's it! Then, I bake that baby for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees and try not to inhale it :-) Maybe you can try one too :-)

P.S. Guess which ARC I'm reading on the plane to LA??

Lindsey's Leavitt's Princess For Hire!!! I can't wait!
