I haven't posted here in a while! Here is a portfolio piece I did recently, which I'm sure could somehow qualify for a fractured fairy tale?
I've really had it in for the poor bunnies lately - you can see
another post with a poor little wabbit on
my blog.
Hope everyone is well and happily creative!
Cheers
Kim
Thanks for all your help on this one, here is the final piece!
I almost can't quite come to terms with what is happening in Japan.
This is a piece I did to donate to
Illustrators Australia's auction with 100% of money going to Japan. (the kanji characters in the right hand corner say 'for Japan'. I hope I got that right!)
Other ways to help out:
It feels good to at least be doing something.
look forward to seeing yours Karen! :-)
Hi guys,
here is a piece I did for the Year of the Rabbit, because I am a rabbit!
would love to hear your feedback.

Well it's the middle of summer here in Australia, but I did this illustration on returning from America, where it was lovely to have a wintry Christmas (although no snow where we were, unlike the rest of the country)
Happy new year! May 2011 be a year of fun, laughter, and creativity for all of us.
Hi guys,
Hope you like the illustration, and the recipe! :)

Here is an oldie but a goodie. It is of course Spring here in the southern hemisphere, but admittedly it still feels like Winter!
Hope you are enjoying Autumn/Fall in the north -- it really is one of my favourite seasons...
Oh, and just wanted to let you all know that I am having a giveaway on my blog for the release of my new children's book! Please visit! :) http://tinyurl.com/23pocmy
Hi All, here is my version of the cup!
I had to really restrain myself from using red in this. I really gravitate toward a bluey palette with red for contrast. Feedback welcome!
Oh and hey, just to let you know I am having giveaway madness over at
my blog for my new book which will be officially launched next weekend. I'd love it if you would visit!
Hi all, thanks for your help on this one -- here's how it turned out. I decided to pull it back a bit from the original, but not too much!
Hi everyone!
Just thought I would introduce myself. I've just joined WaWe and looking forward to contributing to another wonderful community of illustrators.
So.... I'm Kim (aka lil kim). I live in Australia but I'm from Canada. I paint for the children's market using watercolours, coloured pencils and collage. My first trade book is coming out later this year in Australia (very excited!) If you want to see more of my work there's
lil-kim.blogspot.com or

I haven't had time to work on the current theme yet, so thought instead I would show you my contribution to Kelly Light's
Ripple blog.
Looking forward to all your beautiful artwork and insightful comments!
Cheers

ps. Is anyone going to the SCBWI conference in LA this year? I am going... anyone need a conference buddy...? :-)
Here is my contribution to Kelly Light's Ripple blog. Comments appreciated!
Wishing you all the best for fun, safe and creative holidays!
Just thought I'd announce here some very exciting news! I have just started work on illustrating a book for HarperCollins Australia - a Christmas book that will be out for Xmas 2010. I can't say much about it at this point, but am very excited to be working on it!! I'll be posting as many sketches and thoughts about the process as I can on my blog.
Hi all! Just thought I'd let you know that I am having a giveaway over at
my blog of my latest children's book.
Hope you are all well - healthy, happy and creative!
Cheers

I don't know if everyone's doing one, but I had in my diary it was our lovely blog's birthday this weekend, so I've baked it an illustration. Just a quick one as I'm pretty busy at the moment, but I guess this would be my creative cup :)
Just wanted to say thank you so much to all of you, whether you've been involved since the beginning or just the last few months, for your encouragement, insight, information, and generosity. It's a hard (and sometimes lonely) slog doing what we do, and it's always great to know I can come here for honest feedback and amazing inspiration too!
I know the next year will be a great one!
xx
Hi all,
Just thought I'd let you know I did a post on
my blog about how I come up with compositions (this is one I didn't need your help with! ;-) - would love your comments. you can see the post
here and all the posts about my process of illustrating my current book
here.
Hope you are all well out there in creative land!

Hey all!
I am getting ready to head off to the NY SCBWI conference, and getting my folio together. Looking at my pieces, with the 'if in doubt, take it out' motto running through my head, I am struggling to find heaps of pieces I'm really ready to show to NY publishers!
How many pieces should be in a portfolio do you think? I've got about 17 I'm happy with at the moment. Is that enough?
Thanks for your imput!
Cheers

Just wanted to wish you all the best for the coming year and beyond. May you all soar into 2008 on a stripey-socked wonder bird, and may all your dreams come true.
xx l-k.
I just wanted to show you what I ended up doing for that anthology aimed at teenagers, instead of my underwater rave party (which I hope to finish at a later date) - i am happy with this, as I think it suits the age bracket better. thanks again for all your advice.
The anthology is in B&W but I did this in colour so I could use it in my folio. I think I actually like the B&W version better though - somehow the colour doesn't quite do it for me. what do you think?
I was asked to a contribute to an anthology of poems and illustrations for 10-14 year olds, with the subject matter being totally open. Don't ask me why I came up with an underwater rave party! it just came out, and was a lot of fun to do.
Just wondering what you think of the composition?
The jellyfish will be the light sources (think laser light show!) and the eel is a black light eel.
I'm going to do this in colour, for my folio, but the anthology itself is in black and white - so i guess i'll just have to be very conscious of the value and tone when i am painting. Any ideas of how to make it vibrant in B&W (seeing how raves are such psychedelic crazy colours) ?
Thanks all!
hey guys and gals,
what do you think of this?
a bit of a new treatment for me - using acrylics, collage, and a bit of coloured pencil for outlines where necessary (instead of my previous watercolours + black line)
I felt like I needed to break out of my black line style - it was feeling a bit heavy and somehow not refined. would love to hear your feedback!
Cheers

Hi all, I was going to submit this for the Monster Mash contest too, but for some reason I feel something is wrong and I can't put my finger on it. I think maybe it's the colour palette? I liked the idea of using only complementary colours but maybe it makes it look a bit unfinished or something. What do you think?
It's one of those cases where I like my initial sketch much better than the finished thing...
Cheers,
Kim.

This piece is adorable. I could easily see it in a book of animal-themed fairy tales. I hope that little rabbit gets away! Nice work.
