(Childhood winter time memories stay with us wherever we go. May these recollections take you back and bring you home.)
"Remembering Winter"
(North Dakota Horizons, 2007)
Silhouetted sentries stare,
Standing leafless, stark and bare.
Snowflakes, on their wingless flights,
Swirl in winter wind that bites….
Silv'ry, golden strings of lights,
Star-filled skies on nippy nights.
Snowsuits, mittens, itchy tights,
Sledding, skating, snowball fights;
Steaming cocoa-whispered sips,
Smiles on children's rosy lips.
Sticky, frosted finger tips;
Scrumptious s'mores and chocolate chips;
Scents of winter in the air,
Sounds of children everywhere;
Stockings filled with special treats,
Stories Grandpa still repeats.
Simply said, though far you roam,
Special memories bring you home.

This morning K and I headed to Starbucks. The air was cool and crisp and a heavy fog had settled in. Starbucks was packed with customers looking for a piping hot cup of coffee and a good newspaper to read or a friendly chat with a neighbor. Our favorite mugs were back on display and we quickly scooped up the last two and purchased them. They carry the signature Starbucks mermaid design in warm bronze and brown tones, my absolute favorite of all the Starbucks designs. Don't you just love them?
We have the taller version of this design which is great for a latte or mocha, but the shorter, more full bodied mugs are just the right size for a hot cup of chocolate. A warm respite after a busy afternoon of working on a mixture of projects.
We're making headway on the floors and are about 1/3 of the way done, yeah! Of course with any project, one leads to another and now we want to paint the kitchen. I think we'll need to take a life line and ask the audience for help with the color. I'll post photos at a later date and maybe you can help. Right now it is white and while I know this is a popular color, we need a change, even if it is a minute one. Please stay tuned!
Yeah they look beautiful, a few different figures, like fish, girls of old Sultans of Ottoman Empire. But I mostly like dark roses on it cause it plays the own figure with white leaves …
I’m looking forward to looking at your next photos for your kitchen. Do you mind if I would like to tell my opinion about the color? See ya
those are lovely...makes me wish I had a starbucks nearby :)
Hi Maggie! I love Starbucks! My DD use to work for them and I picked up a few great items during that time. One being my expresso machine. She works for Dillanos coffee now and its yummy too.
Anyway I just found your comments on an older post of mine and wrote a new post just for you. We are clearing out the Dinning Room today to begin laying wood floors in there. If you have any other questions feel free to ask. I wasnt sure if you were doing on unfinished hardwood like us or pre finished. Ive never layed the pre finished wood.
Thanks for stopping by and again Im sorry to be so late in responding. I hope you share pictures of your floors.
Those are one of my favorite Starbucks cups as well. I'm trying to hold out for when they go on sale at our small town STarbucks.
My kitchen is still painted a variety of "sample greens" - camo style. EVentually I WILL have to finish painting it. I don't really think I can sell it like this. LOL>
I really just recently paid attention to the mermaid in the Starbucks logo. It's really cool which makes me wonder about it's origination. Is there a story behind the mermaid with two tails?
Looking forward to seeing progress on your project.
oh- i forgot to thank you for your door color input. I got a chuckle about all the thought you put into it. I should just hire you!!
Hi Maggie!
I saw your post and wrote a comment back to you at my site. I wanted to stop in here just to make sure you knew. I keep hoping youll show a sneak peek of your floor!
