1. Some news, related and not-so-much...

We know that this has no direct relation to 2k8, but we'd feel a little remiss if we didn't mention the BIG NEWS TODAY in kidlit!

Jon Scieszka, author of "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales" and the "Time Warp Trio" series, will get the imprimatur of the Library of Congress Thursday as the first National Ambassador for Young People's Literature.

"We think it's very important to have an evangelist for reading" said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington. The library's Center for the Book has teamed up with the Children's Book Council, a publishing industry trade association, to create the National Ambassador program.

Slightly less HUGE as world news, but of great interest to us is this awesome link over at Haunts of a Children's Writer! And THIS ONE at Galleycat! Me-OW!

We do, in fact, plan to be the "kiddie lit heroes of 2008". It's all right there in our strategic plan, right after "make some kids happy" and "get lots of warm fuzzies". We know it's kind of a weird strategic plan.

Last, but not least, be sure to stop back on Monday for Lisa's virtual release party!

2. Night of The Living Dummy by R.L Stine

Lindy and Kris are twin sisters and they look the same on the outside but are true opposites on the outside, that's what it's like for most twins,Lindy and Kris like to bicker a LOT,well, they don't LIKE to bicker they just do.They don't bicker all the time though they also like to tell secrets with each other and they like to do things together and they like to be ventriloquist's,well they weren't ventriloquist's at first until Lindy found Slappy then that's when the trouble started. It was one day when they were going to go look at the house next door construction workers were working on and in the dumpster their was what looked like a child at first that's really what Lindy and Kris thought it was,but when they went closer they saw it was a dummy and they didn't need to worry, but when they found the dummy of course Lindy had to have it,Kris got jealous. Then she asked her father for a dummy too.Her father said it was to much money but then a few days later she got a dummy from her father. She called him Mr.Wood, she loved him and practiced and practiced, until one day the dummy slapped her and started saying bad things...

What I like about the book is the cover looks creepy,VERY creepy, and this book is like Chucky and another movie with a dummy but I don't know the name of it.This book is also like the series of Valley Kids with two twins except this book is horror.

3. For Extra Credit

Know a college kid who'd like to intern with a prestigious literary blogger? Well Ron Hogan over at Galleycat's looking for someone.

Obviously, most of the GalleyCat readership skews towards the gainfully employed, but maybe you know some enterprising journalism or creative writing major who'd be interested in (among other duties) soliciting guest essays, doing short interviews with authors, and formatting essays and interview transcripts for online publication. At the very least, such an intern would make a lot of industry contacts and, if they impress enough, earn a glowing recommendation; I'd even be willing to talk to department heads about course credit if somebody wanted to put that on the table. So if you know anybody who'd be interested, have them get in touch with me.
Sounds kinda fun. A good idea as well. I wouldn't mind having a couple kids willing to locate potential blog articles for me to skim through at the end of a long day. That'd be swell! You'd get to meet some big big names with Galleycat, though. Plus, I doubt grad profs would see Fuse #8 as potential course credit. Worth pondering, however.
