What’s playing on the XM or iPod right now? I WANT TO KISS YOU ALL OVER by No Mercy
A teacher girlfriend sent me this picture and I have to say, the only drawback to digital queries is that we can't use this stamp.
*grin*
And trust me, there are many times when it pretty much sums it up for us.

What’s playing on the XM or iPod right now? HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS by Ella Fitzgerald
This one is way too good not to share. Best chuckle error caused by auto-correct that I've seen in a good long time. For context, NLA owns our office unit within a larger building and the management office sent out an email about an upcoming repair. Talk about the importance of proofreading. I share the exact email sent in all its glory!
Enjoy!
Hi Kristin,
The door contractor will be on site to fix the other half of the front door on Friday, December 2 or Monday, December 5. Hope this isn’t an incontinence.

What’s playing on the XM or iPod right now? WE GET TO FEEL IT ALL by Indigo Girls
But I can also define this week by some really cool things.
1. Got a revised cover for an author who had a hideous cover just last week. New cover is awesome! I'm so pleased and relieved.
2. My colleague Sara held a big big auction for a middle grade boy fantasy novel that went in a major deal (THE PECULIAR by Stefan Bachmann). Squee.
And the best thing ever? Today my author's editor had her baby and get this, she named the baby boy after a character in my author's novel for whom she is the editor.
Okay, nothing beats that. That is just "Yes Way" cool.
And because it's Friday, how can I not share with you www.awkwardfamilypetphotos.com? I read the article in PW, had to check it out. Huge Beverage alert. The below photo was hands down my favorite. Oi!

What’s playing on the XM or iPod right now? JEOPARDY by Greg Kihn (Of course!)
Late on Friday (July 29) I found out that Jamie Ford was going to be a literature question on that night's TV show of Jeopardy!
Surely you've arrived if you are ubiquitous enough to be a question on a popular game show, right?
Not a single contestant got the answer. LOL!
Yep, take it down a notch Kristin. It still makes me smile though.

What’s Playing on the XM or iPod right now? ROSANNA by Toto
Yesterday, Brian headed home to Denver with Chutney in tow. The poor man has had nothing but bad luck with air travel and yesterday was no exception. Brian and Chutney’s plane was delayed by almost 5 hours.
Security lines were also a mess. Over an hour to get back into the gate area if Brian exited the terminal. In short, the two of them were stuck between a rock and a hard place.
And here’s where Southwest Airlines gets my vote for best airline ever.
Although you can’t quite make out Chutney (as she’s behind that gray ladder), here is the shot Brian took of the cluster of southwest employees trying to get Chutney to go to the bathroom out on the tarmac before boarding the plane.
Needless to say, Chutney was too freaked out but kudos to the employees of Southwest for going the distance. They really tried!

What’s playing on the XM or iPod right now? THE GREEN ROOM by Wayne Gratz
Although this isn’t a “funny” per se, it’s more like a cool item. One of NLA’s Australian clients, Cheryl Hingley, had her novel LA CREOLE adapted into a musical.
Here are excerpts from the performance at the Comedy Theater, Melbourne, Australia.
We are also happy to report that Cheryl’s application for a grant from the New Musicals Australia was accepted. How cool is that? Now the musical will go through workshops and a 40-minute fully-funded performance in Sydney this March 2011.
If you live Down Under (and I know I have plenty of readers in that country), you might want to check it out.

What’s playing on the XM or iPod right now? THE FAIRY QUEEN by Clannad
Next Tuesday is election day! Just a reminder to get out there and vote. So many Americans don’t take the time, which drives me crazy. Yes, it’s an inalienable right but there are so many other places in the world where this is not true; we should never take it for granted.
But I have a hilarious story to relate. My husband and I always vote by mail-in ballot so we voted last week.
Little did we know what would be the last initiative on the ballot. I busted out laughing as I hadn’t heard a peep about this one. It was completely unexpected. How could the media not be discussing this?
The last initiative on the ballot was the Extraterrestrial Affairs Commission.
“Shall the voters for the City and County of Denver adopt an Initiated Ordinance to require the creation of an extraterrestrial affairs commission to help ensure the health, safety, and cultural awareness of Denver residents and visitors in relation to potential encounters or interactions with extraterrestrial intelligent beings or their vehicles, and fund such commission from grants, gifts, and donations?”
Irresistible!
And if I hadn’t looked at the ballot and voted, I would never have had the pleasure of contemplating this last initiative…
Happy Friday Everyone!

What’s playing on the XM or iPod right now? SMILE by Lonnie Plaxico Group
I know I’m going to get lambasted for posting this link and by mentioning that in reading these blog posts, I snorted my iced chai this morning but I’m going to share it anyway.
Some days, this is exactly what we agents are thinking when we read some of the odd query letters we receive.
And yes, I know, not all writers are as savvy as my blog readers and we really shouldn’t think it funny but trust me, if we didn’t have a sense of humor some days, we’d go nuts…

Okay, my wifi at home has gone kaput. Sometimes I don’t get a chance to blog while still at the office so then I’ll pop online via the laptop at home. Kind of difficult when it’s not working. Hopefully that will get taken care of tomorrow.
So many little tidbits to share. Most of them funny and it’s not even Friday yet.
Authors Guild and Wiley continue… Lots of people didn’t agree with the AG stance on Google but I’m still quite glad they are out there being a watch dog for authors.
In the best headline I’ve seen recently:
Cops bust woman, 74, for pouring mayo in book drop
All I can say is there must not be a lot going on in Boise, Idaho. Still, I’m dying to know the motive for this condiment crime spree. (Never imagined those three words would appear in the same sentence together.)
And best for last. You know publishing has hit mainstream when The Onion jumps in the mix. I just laughed and laughed. (It’s TWILIGHT but with Minotaurs!).

The main drawback of electronic queries is that your heart gets broken quickly ...and often.
I'm not speaking in specific terms now, nor am I relating this to my own personal experiences. But something like this could come in handy for authors when they get edits back, too.
