While we don't have any car books from Germany, we do have a few picture books that automobile enthusiasts will certainly enjoy (at any speed).
From Australia
and yes, I'm in the passenger seat.
"These two lanes will take us anywhere..."
Where I'm Coming From, what it feels like to leave the city behind and "stumble" towards the outskirts of town. Driving out of New York, driving home and into the arms of Long Island, kicking off my shoes and letting go...
My very first YouTube upload.
Pinch me. I feel as if I discovered electricity.
I YouTubed myself and.. it worked.
"Mr. Watson! Come here!"
It's Newbery/Caldecott announcement morning. Life's about to change for a few of you out there. I suspect you're not sleeping either. ;>
p.s. January 14th. Happy Birthday to my cousin David... wherever you are
I'm excited - the African American National Biography will be published in February 2008! What's this? Glad you asked! Oxford University Press and Harvard University's W.E.B. Du Bois Institute have collaborated to present this landmark 8-volume set. According to the Oxford website this set of books will cover five centuries of Black achievement and contain ... I went back to college this year to top up my skills and am doing the last year of a BA (Hons) in Communication Design and have just sat back after producing this set of stamps for the RSA design directions brief in assoc with the Royal Mail.
The brief was to attract teens and young adults as buyers and collectors and as they were looking for innovation in all aspects of the design they are actually printed on nice and shiny biodegradable acetate. I'm up against probably 80 - 90 other students from round the country... the award is £3000 - about $6000 - and a load of great publicity for the winner!
(All the images except the photo element are hand drawn and no vectors were hurt in the making of this production)
"Sneezing," I said, having just sneezed, "is dangerous." I adjusted the rear view mirror so I could talk with her directly. "Remember we read that it's impossible to sneeze without closing your eyes?"
She nodded.
"That makes sneezing a hazardous activity to do while driving."
"Not for a person with no eyelids," she said.
Ah, good point. Good point indeed.
This rear view mirror has been the 'bain marie of my life' over the past few months. It was knocked off the windscreen a while back and now refuses to stay back on. I've tried with all sorts of stuff but it's just not having it. So far I've tried the sticky pads (that are supposed to do the job), masking tape, parcel tape and now it's got a kind of industrial strength double sided sticky tape. It's still on the floor every time I get into the car but if I stick it back in place, before I set off anywhere, it'll usually last the journey. It can be quite a scary experience when it drops off mid drive. Today it stayed in place, it even posed for this drawing.
By the way, that's Sparrowpit in the distance. Isn't that a great name for a village?
Riding in cars. I'm not crazy about riding in the back seat of a car with anyone. I get a closed in feeling and I don't like it but I can do it. If the car is large and roomy I don't have a problem with it at all. I just like a lot of window to look out of.
This was a quick sketch I did of Steve, our driver when we went to Kansas City on business a few weeks ago. My hand was a bit shaky; trying to draw in the back seat of a car is no easy feat.
I like the black & white line work in contrast with the color blends! Hope you win it.
