1. 2012 SCBWI Tomie dePaola Award Entry

This is my entry for the SCBWI Tommy dePaola Award. It was great fun to work on it! If you click on the image you can see the details better.

The text Tomie chose this year is from Chicken Licken by P.C. Asbjörnsen.
So they went along and went along until they met Turkey Lurkey“Good morning, Goosey

Loosey, Ducky Daddles, Cocky Locky, Henny Penny, and Chicken Licken,” said Turkey Lurkey, “where are you going?”
“Oh, Turkey Lurkey, the sky is falling and we are going to tell the King!”
“How do you know the sky is falling?” asked Turkey Lurkey.
“Ducky Daddles told me,” said Goosey Loosey.
“Cocky Locky told me,” said Ducky Daddles.
“Henny Penny told me,” said Cocky Locky.
“Chicken Licken told me,” said Henny Penny
“I saw it with my own eyes, I heard it with my own ears,
and a piece of it fell on my tail!” said Chicken Licken.
“Then I will go with you,” said Turkey Lurkey, “and we will tell the King!”

2. KID'S COLOURING PAGE - Chicken Licken

This colouring/activity page is for you to print out and give to children - yours, someone else's or to use in a school or library. All I ask is that it is not used for commercial purposes.
Simply click on the image and print for your children to colour.

Don't forget to follow my blog so you will receive the latest Kid's Colouring Page. I will be posting regularly in the New Year.

Toodles!

3. Tomie de Paolo Award 2012 - Chicken Licken

Yesterday was the deadline for the Tomie de Paolo SCBWI award 2012. The theme ... if you didn't guess already ... is the classic tale 'Chicken Licken'.
Here's what I did ...

First Sketch
 Inked with hand dipping pen

First colouring ... didn't like colours

Final colouring in watercolour. I changed a couple of details in photoshop. If you look at the inked copy you will see I tweaked the shape of Turkey Lurkey's tail, the size of Henny Penny and removed some of the 'marks' on the road.
The piece took me a couple of days.
Wish me luck! The award is announced early January - the winner receives $1000 and all expenses paid to the SCBWI conference to NY in Spring. And as I haven't scheduled to be there this year, it would be sweeeet.

Whatever, it was a fun piece to do. Lately I seem to have been drawing a lot of fowl!
