Talk about links! Be sure to check in at Cynsations this week too. I always find tons of great information on her blog. Cynthia Leitich Smith is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her website with more great interviews, and a 10th anniversary giveaway. Love those interviews! Congratulations and thank you Cynthia!
First Books is running their What Book Got You hooked? literacy awareness campaign again this year. You can cast a vote, share a memory of the first book that made reading fun for you and help get more kids hooked. They will be giving away 50,000 new books for children in need to the state that receives the most votes. (Voting ends Sept. 15th.) Last year I wrote about the book that hooked me here.

So, on Tuesday (which is the BIG DAY) I’ll be online all day at Book Roast, chatting with folks and making a general fool of myself (no surprise there I guess). And I would beg you stop by for a number of reasons.
1. I’m scared nobody will come, and I’ll look silly.
2. I’m nervous about the book and could use your love, generally.
3. Book Roast is awesome fun and you should check it out.
4. You could win a free book.
5. It benefits Reach Out and Read!!!
Pretty please, won’t you stop by, and maybe even help me spread the word?

I’ve always fantasized about being a great crafter. However if the craft involves any real skill, I’m not your go to person. I fancy myself to have found a few fun crafting books for teens and young adults. Here’s the short list:
Plush You!: Loveable Misfit Toys to Sew & Stuff by Kristen Rask
Plush-O-Rama: Curious Creatures for Immature Adults by Linda Kopp
Super Crafty: Over 75 Amazing Craft Projects
Alternacrafts: Hi-Style Low Budget Crafts to Make by Jessica Vitkus
Amigurumi: Super Happy Crochet Cute by Elisabeth Doherty
Mr. Funky’s Super Crochet Wonderful by Narumi Ogawa
When assessing the quality of these titles I was judging them from an aesthetic point of view. If the pictures were nice and the projects looked cool they made the list. Some of these books got pretty bad reviews by serious crafters.
Oh, heck -- I should have posted my link to Book Roast like this, as a blog post. Why didn't I think of that?
Duh.
Thank you Danette!!
I'll be back next week to read your interview...
(Congralations, btw!)
(And I wanted to thank you about the heads-up regarding WOW's flash fiction contest. I submitted something, and received an email that it made it through the first cut. I was *thrilled!!* even if it doesn't go any farther than that.)
