First reviewed on 2/20/09, Tunnels (and the whole series) still stands out as a stellar action adventure story. The writing, plotting and world building is superb, inventive and fresh, while also feeling a bit classic at the same time. Yet another book that remains a favorite and has stuck with me for years.

Looks like a winner. Too scary for an advanced-reading seven-year-old? (I stopped reading to avoid any spoilers....appreciated the head's up)
Yes!! Definitely too scary for a 7 year old (who has not grown up watching Star Wars and Indiana Jones and other questionable media like that.) The bad guys are really menacing and sinister, although run-ins with them are minimal.
