Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled an official trailer for the Suicide Squad film adaptation. The video embedded above offers glimpses of Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.
Here’s more from The Hollywood Reporter: “Suicide Squad centers around a group of villains and ne’er-do-wells — headed up by Will Smith’s Deadshot and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn — forced to work for the government under the supervision of Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman). With such morally dubious characters as the “good” guys, it falls to one of DC’s most infamous villains — the Joker, as played by Jared Leto — to take up the position of bad guy in the movie.”
Variety reports that the release date for this movie, helmed by David Ayer, has been set for Aug. 5. Follow this link to watch a first look video. (via Comic Book Resources)
Academy Award-nominated actress Viola Davis (pictured, via) has signed on to play abolitionist Harriet Tubman in a biopic. Tubman, who was born into slavery, became well-known for escaping and leading 300 others to freedom through an Underground Railroad.
The story will be based on Kate Clifford Larson’s biography, Bound For The Promised Land. Deadline.com reports that “HBO Films has teamed with writer Kirk Ellis, producer Doug Ellin and Steven Spielberg’s Amblin TV” for this project.
Here’s more from the article: “Cliff Dorfman, who had optioned the book, was a writer on the HBO comedy Entourage, created and executive produced by Ellin, who has a deal with the pay cable network. All key auspices have strong ties to HBO.”

It’s never been made official, at least not via a press release or anything of the like, but its been assumed that the rumored reports of Viola Davis‘ involvement in the upcoming DC Comics based film Suicide Squad, playing Amanda Waller, were a matter of fact.
Speaking with Nerd Report recently, the actress confirms that she will indeed playing the role of the Squad’s ringleader. Here’s what she had to say:
I’m fascinated by her. I’m fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She’s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I’m fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I’m excited to pick up a gun.
Davis states that she hasn’t begun researching the character in full as she’s still working on her schedule for the film, as such, it’s possible her role may not be particularly large given the actresses’ TV shooting demands for How To Get Away With Murder. Regardless, she’s another tremendous “get” for this star-studded cast.
Suicide Squad will be directed by David Ayer (Fury, End Of Watch) and also stars Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margo Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevigne. The film will release on August 5, 2016.
The film adaptation of Katheryn Stockett‘s The Help took three awards at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards last night, including Best Ensemble Cast.

Both Davis and Spencer have been nominated for Academy Awards. The Envelope had this quote from Spencer: “I love taking men home. I would be lying if I didn’t say to you I would love to win an Oscar. But we have a group of brilliantly talented actresses, and it’s not a foregone conclusion that because I’ve won these [awards] then I’ll win [the Oscar].” (Via The L.A. Times)

The official trailer for an upcoming adaptation of Kathryn Stockett‘s The Help has been released. The film will hit theaters in August 12th.
We’ve embedded the video above–what do you think? According to Deadline, the film stars Easy A actress Emma Stone as Eugenia ‘Skeeter’ Phelan and Doubt actress Viola Davis as Aibileen Clark. Tate Taylor served as both director and screenwriter.
On her site, Stockett explains her research process: “Once I’d done my [library research] homework, I’d go talk to my Grandaddy Stockett, who, at ninety-eight, still has a remarkable memory. That’s where the real stories came from, like Cat-bite, who’s in the book, and the farmers who sold vegetables and cream from their carts everyday, walking through the Jackson neighborhoods.”
