1. Tuesday Rocks: Encore! Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain

Okay, obviously I didn't peruse the interwebz enough today. Because then I stumbled on this fantastic gem:

Also check out their cover of Shaft and other vids, they're pretty entertaining.

2. Tuesday Rocks: Ray Charles!

I couldn't decide who or what to feature on Tuesday Rocks because quite honestly I'm so not in with the current music scene. I stopped listening to live radio over a year ago (other than NPR) so my new music is composed more of stuff I stumble upon via the interwebs. So rather than purposefully pick something new to feature, I decided on the iTunes roulette method (hit shuffle) and ladies and gentlemen, we present:

Ray Charles!

Way to pick 'em blind! [hang head in shame for lame joke]

When my sister started college she took some sort of music appreciation class or something, for which she had a Ray Charles cd. I borrowed it and played it over and over and over and adored it. Favorite song, Hallelujah I Love Her So:

3. Tuesday Rocks: Take On Me

I heard an acoustic cover of A-Ha's Take On Me the other day, and I have to admit, I quite liked it. It's quite a bit different from A-ha, but that's okay because it's one of those songs that you'd never hold a candle to unless you made it very different. So here's the original and a couple of covers:

Sarah Bareilles:

On a uke (with lite brites!):

And the one I heard on the radio by AC Newman:

4. Tuesday Rocks: Sophie Madeleine/Rocky and Balls

I'm a little late with the Tuesday part, but hey, Wednesdays rock too!

In honor of my seeeeester and G's birthdays, I'm presenting their latest favorite: Sophie Madeleine/Rocky and Balls. Cute songs, a ukelele, and some kazoos! It's great stuff!

5. Tuesday Rocks: 7 Worlds Collide

Neil. Neil! Neil!!!

Once again, Neil brings together some rock stars for a collaborative project: 3 weeks in NZ with members from Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Wilco, KT Tunstall and others. Under the name 7 Worlds Collide, their double album, The Sun Came Out, is a benefit for Oxfam. It's an interesting mix of new songs from a prolific bunch of songwriters and musicians.

It just arrived in the mail today from Amazon, so I'm still spinning past songs as I type. And I like how different it is. And it's Neil after all, so of course it's good stuff.

And a video about the project:

6. Tuesday Rocks: Black Coffee in Bed

Can it be a coincidence that Glenn from Squeeze bears a resemblance to Neil Finn, looks and voice, and also makes great music? Or is that just me?

And don't forget the fabulous Tempted and Pulling Mussels from the Shell.

7. Tuesday Rocks: Flight of the Conchords

I've been watching a lot of tv (via dvds via netflix) lately: MI-5 (Spooks), Heroes, Arrested Development, and Flight of the Conchords. There's some good television out there to be seen--thank goodness we can rent it. Flight of the Conchords makes me laugh. The show isn't consistently brilliant, but for the most part it makes me laugh at how absurd they can be. And I love their New Zealand

8. Tuesday Rocks: Barky's Spiritual Store

When the weather is sunny, I must listen to happy, poppy music. It's just a must with me. So lately, with the sun coming out everyday for the whole week and the weather climbing into the 50s and 60s, I've been rocking out to my Scott McCaughey playlist of the Young Fresh Fellows and Minus 5. Mr. McCaughey is/was? a Seattle local and can sometimes be spotted rocking out with REM (he and

9. Tuesday Rocks: Footloose

So driving back from Mt. Baker, we listened to the Footloose soundtrack. Apparently that's what my in-law's family would listen to whenever they drove back from a day on the mountain. I forgot how fun that soundtrack is: it's got "Let's Hear It For The Boy," "Almost Paradise," "Holding Out For A Hero," and "Hurts So Good" on it. And it's hard not to feel energized by good ol' Kenny. The

10. Tuesday Rocks: Blue

Is it Tuesday again already? Where does the week go? I had started to feel a little hard pressed to come up with music for Tuesdays, as if I'd run out of good music to share (jeez, is that even possible?). But when I pulled up YouTube just now it suddenly hit me that I had not yet shared the earthy goodness that is The Jayhawks with you all. I'm only a recent fan of theirs, coming on board

11. Tuesday Rocks: Mr. Paganini

Ella rocks. There's just no denying that she really is the First Lady of Song. We're widening the genre of Tuesday Rocks this week in celebration of Lady Susan's birthday this coming weekend, to feature one of my (and Lady S') favorite artists, Ella Fitzgerald. I suppose Lady S and I first became friends because of our mutual adoration of Ella. Her impeccable timing, her spot on tone, and her

12. Tuesday Rocks: Love Comes

So I was trying to figure out what song to post this week and decided it was about time to feature one of my favorite bands, The Posies. A search on YouTube pulls up 273 videos. I was a little shocked that they would pull up quite that many, and it shocked me even more that most of them were for the song Love Comes, which is a newer song, and really not one of their more standard fare that you

13. Tuesday Rocks: Gather to the Chapel

I just bought Liam Finn's new solo album, I'll Be Lightening, and I love it. I want everyone to go out and buy it right now (it's new this week in the US). It's a bit Neil, a bit Elliott Smith, a bit Beck. It's good. This is such a neat video.  The song is lovely, but the video is especially fun to watch.  Rather than any special effects being involved, I prefer to picture him running behind

14. Tuesday Rocks: Always Love

Feeling a little uninspired today -- read: I'm so freaking cold, I just can't wait to go jump into my warm bed and finish reading The Blue Sword.  So I'm just posting what I've been listening to lately: I've had Nada Surf's "Let Go" album for years and I love it to death.  I finally picked up their "The Weight is a Gift" in the used bin at Sonic Boom a few weeks ago, and now I love that too.  And

15. Tuesday Rocks: Summertime

I know, I know, it's the dead of winter and it's actually snowing once again in Seattle, but I guess this just makes this song even more appealing. I love The Sundays. Their Static & Silence album was a staple of my freshman year in college. I remember turning this puppy up really loud on the first day of spring quarter with the windows open, the sunlight creeping and a sweet breeze blowing

16. Dirty Little Secret

I never wanted to tell anyone this, but my cat has a drinking problem. She goes through a bottle of "Mewlot" a night, and to make matters worse she eats donuts too! It's just so embarassing.

There...now you know our dirty little secret.

18. Total Carbs

Ok - I don't know if you guys are going to believe me, but I CAN EAT 9 donuts (Krispy Kreme Original Glazed), 1 bowl of cereal (Cinnamon Oatmeal), 3 Filipino Sweet Rice Cakes, and a glass of Milk – all in one sitting. I am 5ft 1" tall and weigh 101 lbs and I did this because my brother double-dared me and said I was a teenie sissy girl.....Yup, after that he stopped calling me a sissy. :)
