Hey TFers,
Well, much has happened since we decided to start publishing again. We did indeed publish Really?!!?!, the book about a female humor writer’s adventures in online dating. It made the L. A. Times.
And we are in a second printing of our Fall book by Stuart K Robinson, It All Begins With “I” – The “New Rules of Thinking” and the Simple Secrets to living a Rich, Joyous, and Fulfilled Life. Stuart did a 7- City tour of the U. S. and continues to book speaking engagements around the country. If you want to live the life you’ve always dreamed about, this is the book that will get you there. It is possible!!! And here is a quick look at Stuart in action on his Sizzle Reel (that’s what they call it in the business – don’t worry, your computer won’t spontaneously combust if you watch it!!!)
And, and, we have two great books coming out this Spring. The first is a memoir by John Sacret Young (screenwriter/co-creator of China Beach, writer/producer of The West Wing, author, director, etc., etc.. He’s done a lot!!!) It’s called Pieces of Glass and it’s about his life in the World of Art. We’re calling it an Artoir. Very interesting and illuminating, not just about his life but about American Art in the 20th Century (mostly). I know I learned a thing or two (and my mom was an artist!).
The second book is a nostalgic visit to a series that sold over a million copies at Price Stern Sloan. Designs to Color was really the first adult coloring series back in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. It’s perfect for all those grown-ups who’ve fallen in love with coloring. Whether for stress or just for fun, this book series (the second one will be out in the Fall) offers fanciful trips into new worlds and, when finished, each one is suitable for framing! I guess you could frame them before they’re finished but…
And, and, and, remember our Droodles contests? Well, there’s a rumor that we may be publishing the definitive Droodles book in the Fall. So stay tuned for that and more chances to caption and win.
So, let us know what you think about all our news. And how about a quick contest right now. A free copy of Stuart’s life-changing book to the first person who can tell us the artist who created the Designs to Color series back in the day. Please leave your answer in the Comment section below (just under the date) Good luck!!!
We had several of our authors autograph their books and there were lines for all of them. Nice!
Saw lots of old friends from publishing days gone by and met new friends, too.
And, luckily, we skirted disaster (literally) when on, set-up day, an entire wall of the very large booth (about 30 feet) fell over. Our founders, Leonard Stern and Larry Sloan, were standing right there and managed to get out of the way just in time. Could've been really ugly. The chair Leonard had been sitting in moments before was rather mangled. Thank you to the book gods for intervening.
Now, what you've all been waiting for...
Yes, it's true. We are actually annoucing the
winner for Contest #10. And the winner is Mitch Rice! Congratulations!
Look for your copy of Droodles - The Classic Collection in your mailbox soon.
And here is the winning caption: Van Gogh's ear: A self-portrait

The firecrackers are starting to sizzle and spit! Are you ready? Here come the winners for our 10,000 Hits Contest!
1st Place goes to Liquid Amber, winner of the tre chic Banned Book bracelet from Vroman's Books in Pasadena. I'm wearing mine today. Love it tons. Way to go LA!
2nd place to Anne Marie, who will receive an autographed copy of Robin's lastest book Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos. And don't forget, you can also designate another recipient if you want to donate the book to a school, agency, child, or White House Library.
3rd place goes Stephanie Humphreys! I'll send you (or your designee) a signed copy of The One Where the Kid Nearly Jumps to His Death and Lands in California. Atta girl, Stephanie!
And, last, but never least, 4th place honors to Rebecca Langston George! Hip hip soufle! Rebecca, you have your choice of chocolate OR a 10-page manuscript critique from Robin. Anyone else out there willing to admit that this would present a real conundrum?
I need our four esteemed winners to email me with your address so we can get your booty out to you.
Danke, arigato and graci, good friends, for joining in our celebration and being part of our SVP world. We are truly having the time of our lives here, and look forward to the next ten grand, or gazillion. (I'm working on my abundance issues.)
YOUR fans,
Mary & Robin
Yay! I am so excited!!!!!!
Puh-leeze, Rebecca, do not think it will hurt my feelings one bit if you choose chocolate. The reason I offered was b/c a couple of months ago, at an event, I offered someone chocolate as a prize and they demurred, explaining they were diabetic. It just made me aware that not everyone covets candy as much as Mary and I do.
Congrats to you winners!!
Toot! Toot!
Kimberly Lynn
Wow, can't wait to read the book. Thanks.
Robin:
Are you insane? I would take a critique from you over chocolate any day of the week! I should probably send YOU chocolate to ease the pain of having to read part of my manuscript. I'm so excited! Yippee Yippee! If I was a winner I was hoping to win the critique. Thank you soooo much!
