Playing catch up

I have been caught up the world of trying to catch up, which means sorting out the studio, general sorting and tidying and gasp! going outside. Sunshine, trees, bike riding and library visiting, all quite lovely.

I have been sewing again and should have something to show by the end of the week. Been having great fun trying to re-create the wolf that I made last year, but this time in a brown, tweedy wool/silk mix. Great fabric to work with and I am hoping that it will have lots of raggedy edges to make him look the scoundrel that he is.Here is a reminder of how he looked:

I am working on a new Little Red also. I think she will be bigger and have jointed arms and legs like ol' wolfie there.

Also wanted to show you this. My husband has many talents and seems to have developed a new one... P.J.Bracegirdle

A Fiendish Sneak Peek!

I wanted to let everyone know that my husband, children's author PJ Bracegirdle, has just been interviewed on Presenting Lenore. Head on over to read all about his new trilogy THE JOY OF SPOOKING, on shelves from August 5.

If you would like a chance to read the book before its release date, Lenore has three ARCs (advance reviewer copies)of the first book, Fiendish Deeds, to give away, each containing a signed bookplate. Thanks! It was a piece I did a while ago for Illustration Friday and the topic was rain. It is nice to have a chance now and then to work on pieces that are a little moodier :)

I love your artwork! I truly do! And since I often wander the children's book section, dreaming someday of also illustrating for children's books, I recall seeing your work. Your style is highly recognizable & I must stop one day & actually read the stories along with just flipping through the lovely pictures! :) I am VERY tempted to order a few of your prints! And I too found you on the pages of Artful Blogging.

The magazine inspired me to pick up my drawing again & I hope to stay on this creative streak!!!

Hello my dears, it has been a while. Things have been a bit of a whirlwind around here, not leaving much time for this little old blog.

I have lots to share when I have a bit more time but couldn't wait to show you this, the cover of my husband's first book Fiendish Deeds:

Isn't it wonderful? Nicoletta Ceccoli is so talented and has captured the characters of the story perfectly. Fiendish Deeds will be published by McElderry Books Summer 2008. So lovely! I'll have to see if I can convince the head librarian to get it for the children's department! The author name made me giggle a bit, because I was just in a play called "Blithe Spirit" and the character Elvira talks all about her infidelities with Captain Bracegirdle!

Butterfly by Nicoletta Ceccoli

I can finally tell you who is illustrating the covers of my husband's chapter book trilogy, The Joy of Spooking. It is the one and only, truly wonderful Nicoletta Ceccoli!

When Paul called out the news from another room, I actually thought he was just teasing me. When I ran through, there it was, in an email from his editor.

We were already huge fans and didn't even know she was being considered for the job. Her work is perfect for the series and we feel grateful and giddy all at the same time. We have seen the design for the book jacket and it is simply stunning. The mood is very eerie and the main character Joy is hauntingly beautiful. Unfortunately, I'm not sure we can show you it this early (the first book is out next Summer), so instead, here are a few more of our favourite images by Nicoletta:
