1. Teen Read Week Chat Transcript

Last night, YALSA members met in YALSA’s ALA Connect space for the division’s monthly online chat. This month, participants discussed Teen Read Week—exchanging programming ideas, discussing the economic crisis’ effect on Teen Read Week plans, talking about the Teens’ Top Ten and more. Read the transcript (PDF) for inspiration!

Our thanks to Carla Land for hosting and to all the participants for their contributions.

Join us for the next chat, Oct. 7, on advocacy for teen services, hosted by Beth Gallaway, chair of YALSA’s advocacy task force.

2. New Downloadable Publicity for the Teens’ Top Ten 2009 Nominees

Voting for the YALSA 2009 Teens’ Top Ten begins on August 25th.  There are 25 titles up for this award– the only book choice award that is chosen solely by teens.

Summer is the perfect time to promote this program.  Teens are out of school and are looking for great books to read.  You know the names of the books, but how can you promote the titles to your teen patrons?

As always, YALSA has what you need!  Now you can download and print bookmarks from the YALSA websiteYou can put these bookmarks out for your teens to take.  Or put the bookmarks inside the books on display.  Help us get the word out to your teen patrons so that from August 25th-September 18th, they can be ready to vote in the national poll.  Teens vote by going to www.ala.org/teenstopten.

At the same website (www.ala.org/teenstopten), you can find a button you can use on your internet computers.  Download the button, and link the image back to the voting site.

These are some easy, low cost ways you can promote the Teens’ Top Ten to your teen patrons.
