$66,987 pledged of $65,000 goal
Wow! iVerse pledged “$5,000 or more” for the exclusive digital rights!
There were many cool premiums offered (Comic book cameos for pledges! Original art! Cosplay costumes! A superhero extreme makeover! Portfolio reviews!), and many still are available!
The coolest?
For $20, a copy will be donated to a school or library! (Reading With Pictures will even help you find one!) And that donation is tax deductible!
Want to give an entire classroom a set? $125 will donate a set of 25 digital copies to a classroom! $275 will get the same set in paper! Don’t you wish YOU could have read a comics textbook when you were in grade school? Now you can make that dream a reality for a lucky classroom (and school, since they’ll probably be borrowed by multiple classes!)! $400 gets 25 copies of the print and digital editions! (And you can claim a tax deduction!)
Oh, and best get yourself a copy! Here’s what’s inside!
We’re very proud to back this project. I’m really excited about everything the folks at Reading with Pictures are doing…I can’t wait to do more with them!
Congrats to Josh and the entire team for making this happen!

Sheer joy is, I think, a totally appropriate description for the response to the news for this. Josh is a force for change to be reckoned with. The graphic text book project is hitting right when a new wave of educators are fearlessly introducing comics/graphic novels into the classroom. Thank you Josh for the hard work and thank you too to the amazingly talented creators who have joined in to make the project a reality.
There’s a lot more to come!

The Reading with Pictures nonprofit hopes to raise $65,000 on Kickstarter to fund their graphic novel project, The Graphic Textbook. Above, we’ve embedded a video about the project–what do you think?
Printz Award-winning graphic novelist Gene Luen Yang has agreed to write the forward. The book cover will be by Ben Caldwell. The editors include Josh Elder, Paul Morrissey and Brandon Montclare. Many other comic artists have also joined.
Here’s more about the project: “Aimed at grades 3-6, The Graphic Textbook features a dozen short stories (both fiction and non-fiction) that address topics in a variety of disciplines (Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, Science) drawn from the list of Common Core Standards used in classrooms countrywide. The accompanying Teacher’s Guide will include Standards-correlated lesson plans customized to each story, research-based justifications for using comics in the classroom, a guide to establishing best classroom practices and a comprehensive listing of additional educational resources. The Graphic Textbook will prove once and for all that comics belong in the classroom by creating a comic that every teacher will actually want to use and a textbook that every student will actually want to read!”

Hi all, it is Darth Bill again on the scene. Before I talk about recent reads, I would like to share some other information on some really cool stuff. One is called Reading With Pictures. It's mission/purpose is as follows:
Reading With Pictures is a nonprofit organization that advocates the use of comics in the classroom to promote literacy and improve educational outcomes for all students. We work with academics to cultivate groundbreaking research into the proper role of comics in education. We collaborate with cartoonists to produce exceptional graphic novel content for scholastic use. Most importantly, we partner with educators to develop a system of best practices for integrating comics into their curriculum. At Reading With Pictures, we get comics into schools and get schools into comics.
Something else I would like you cats out there to know about is the really cool new DC Cartoon Series "Batman: Brave and The Bold." Check it out:
