On March 17th I flew to Miami to meet with the other SCBWI Regional Advisors from around the country and globe to share ideas on what members want and how we could improve and offer more venues.
I thought you might like to see some of the grueling work that took place.
Friday morning we boarded the Norwegian Sky for our weekend meeting.

Is Your RA in this picture?
Here are the lovely ladies at the pool. Do you recognize your RA?
A little book inspiration. Do you recognize this RA, illustrator and author? She has published some very cute picture books.
Setting sail Friday evening.
Dinner on Board. Maybe your RA is in this photo.
A little towel art to greet us at the end of the day.

Kathy, that was SO enjoyable to see! I tell you, since I’ve never been to an island, I always thought the color of the water was fake lol…but now I know better! How gorgeous! It looks like you all had a great time, and it made me really happy to know you got to enjoy some time away You deserve that and much more! I loved seeing the pics of Steve and Lin, too! Thanks for sharing these with us! But there was ONE thing missing, my dear: pics of you! (…although, I suspect the mystery feet may have been attached to YOUR body lol)
A much deserved celebration for all the hard working RAs.
Oh, Kathy you poor thing. It looks excruciating. I bet you couldn’t wait to get back to the dreary, bleak weather in NJ.
Seriously, how salubrious!
(My family and I were treated to a Norwegian Cruise a few years back ((looks like the same boat and stops… not sure)) and it was pure heaven.)
Welcome back, and thanks for sharing! Barb
Kathy, glad you all had a good time. It looks like fun. Thanks for the wonderful photos; they really give a sense of what you all were looking at. If my red squirrel story sells, I hope to go to the beach myself.
Good reporting job!
Helaine
What fun Kathy! I’m glad you enjoyed yourself.
Sorry to hear about your tooth.
That was a really fun post-I’m glad to see you get to enjoy things like that after all the work you do!

Kathy,
I loved all of your pictures and I’m SO GLAD you were able to make the trip. You totally deserve this — all of your hard work and dedication to this chapter is greatly appreciated!! Hope your face is back to normal now and that your pain is gone. Looking forward to hearing more about the trip!
Oh, the things we’ll endure just to get our work done!
You’re the best for sharing the pictures and story. Thanks.
Donna,
No, the color of the water is not fake. I always saw the beautiful turquise color, but I was surprised at the shade of dark blue in the deep water. I never saw that shade of blue. It was gorgeous. This was my first cruise – wasn’t sure I was going to like it, but it was fun. Obviously I would have had a better time if I wasn’t drugged up.
And no, the mystery feet are not mind. I really don’t know who they belong to, the picture was sent around on the RA listserv.
Kathy
Mary,
It would be so much fun to have a writers retreat on a cruise.
Kathy
Barbara,
I think this is a popular cruise. One of my girlfriends had taken this one, too.
See you soon,
Kathy
Helaine,
I love the beach, even though I can’t sit out in the sun. But the water off the Jersey Shore is not the gorgeous colors you see here. The lifeguard said he thought it was because thery don’t have waves that churn up the bottom.
Kathy
Mandy,
Life is always throwing something in the way. Who would expect to get sn abscess and have to have root canal the day before you leave? Just imagine how bad it would have been to have that happen during the cruise. So I was lucky.
Kathy
Cathy,
I had taken my computer with me hoping to get some work done, but when I turned it on, Word decided to not open and everything I needed to do was in Word. I think someone was trying to tell me something.
See you soon,
Kathy
Connie,
My face is back to normal. It’s still sore, but I go back to the dentist tomorrow and then I have an appointment on Tuesday, too. I will be so glad when I can get a break from the dentist. I’ve gotten quite a few books read over the last year waiting in the office. So there is an upside. Just finished reading Laurie Halse Anderson’s TWISTED. All I can say is read it. It’s great!
See you soon,
Kathy
Pam,
Don’t you think you could be inspired to write with all that beauty saround? Maybe we should have a writer’s retreat on a cruise.
Talk soon,
Kathy
I’m just glad for you that the timing worked out better than worse ’cause, as you said, it could’ve been much worse. How wonderful it would be if your mouth (and your dentists) would leave you alone for a great while!
Donna
Yes! That SOMEtimes we need to take a break and REALLY relax—-and deservedly so!
