Just a smattering of lovely, last looks.... (click on any of the photos for a closer view)
So many cool, water-weathered and gnarly roots...
Impressive cliff faces along the Sound - complete with a bald eagle coasting on the air currents.
Periwinkles sprinkled liberally every inch of the beach that is under water at some point. Mosses that even grow in briney water. The bones of old water-worn docks that resemble nothing short of dinosaur vertebrae.
And possibly my favorite part - the 'still life' arrangements one could find at low tide - assembled by accommodating mussels. Consisting of mussels, driftwood, pebbles, whelks (and whelk eggs!) and oyster shells. Each one is surprisingly more beautiful than the last and so artfully constructed. Even as artists - it's tough to compete with Mother Nature! (and if you want to see more amazing artful nature, see this post on the seastars that were visible at low tide over on our POBL blog).
Lovely, lovely time... And so long until our next retreat in the fall...

Wow! Looks all so amazing, delicious and healthy! I love all your retreat photos. It looks like you all had such a wonderful time! I am glad the Quinoa stew was a success! :)
Wow, that is really beautiful. I remember in college, Hallmark came to tell us about their company and artists. Every year they offer a retreat to their artists. They go to a farm house in the country and just create. They can do anything; pottery, painting, writing, whatever, with no requirements for it to be an actual product. I wanted to work there so bad, just for that retreat!
Always slightly envious of your retreats, Tara. I'm just back from NZ;had several days sans power (thankyou, Cyclone Ului); unfinished artwork took priority once the hot water was restored. So...catching up with blog-jam will take a while. But there should be some artr pics in my next post.
what lovely, restful photos. Nature has it's own intensity that gets me so engrossed that all of my tension fades away. Looking forward to seeing the results of your creative weekend!
My project has ended just in time for my critique group's biennial art-retreat. We'll be heading off to a place on the water for a long weekend of good food, great company and intense creating. Will report more upon our return.
Hope you are having a lovely weekend where ever you are!

The covers are essentially done, and are currently being pressed between thick masonite with a stack of heavy heavy art books on top. (I've already seen a few tweaks that need to happen before actually shipping them - but they are small). Hooray.
Now I have to finish up packing for our annual fall retreat (you can see a sample report from a previous one here). Long weekend, phone/computer/TV/internet-less up in the mountain with nothing to do but make fabulous food and fabulous art.
Am SO looking forward to the break and change of pace from the forever-covers!
Will report more on my return.

Our spring retreat is supposed to be a little more low-key than our fall one - it's a bit shorter, and we try to be much less ambitious with the food... Except for the amazing High Tea put together by the amazing POBLite, Sarah -
Can I say - too much yum, and too much fun?

Wow. I'm totally jealous. I need a group like yours. Don't know what it would be about since I am not a professional artist. Maybe when I become the photographer I long to be. I don't know. Fun though.
Sugar Cubes?? You had sugar cubes? I haven't seen those since I went to the tea room at Bullock's with my grandma. (I confess a handful ended up in my little purse for my horse). Your luncheon layout is a work of art. Yummy.
Having seen this place... It is a beautiful place, but your photos are sooo good and stand out! You are blessed with talents in so many areas. Dramatic lighting, great detail. It makes me smile to see these people I know so well having such a great time! What a fun idea to do a tea! Love the tea sandwiches! Did Jo or anyone paint the scene?
Absolutely adorable! We have a chipmunk village behind our outbuilding...this morning one of our cats was pacing back & forth along the kitchen window sill as the chipmunk sat on the other side calling to it's friends that the bird feeders were freshly supplied! Thanks for sharing such neat photos~ Michelle
cute little things :) That first pic would make a lovely little painting. We had a bunch of chipmunks do the same thing when we went camping when I was younger. We could never leave anything on the picnic tables without the chipmunks coming over to see if it was edible :p
Koldo turned me on to your site and I totally want to put a little hidey hole like that in my steps some day...how cute and innovative! Last one cracked me up too :D
I love the Sculpy and Squirrel! Had some cheeky Carolina Greys in London and here, of course, it's possums who occupy the "cheeky" niche. What a refreshing weekend.

Love the squirrel and fairy houses, looks like you have had a nice time. Once our broadband works I will post about our trip. Love the look of your scanner that must make a huge differance. I'm still learning how to feed paper into the r1900 but its 100 times better than the r800 same ink but only a4. The investment is going to save me loads of time.
Yay, fairy house! Miss V made one of those in our last backyard. It had its own well and everything. Yours looks exceptionally comfy and well-composed.
Live starfish like that look creepy.
