1. Hosni Mubarak Resigns; Did Tweets Help Change the World?

A few minutes ago BBC News tweeted that Egypt’s president President Hosni Mubarak has resigned. They quoted Egyptian opposition leader, Nobel Prize winner, and author Mohamed ElBaradei: “This is the greatest day of my life. The country has been liberated.”

Last night ElBaradei (pictured) tweeted: “Egypt will explode. Army must save the country now.” And this morning, he tweeted: “Entire nation is on the streets. Only way out is for regime to go. People power can’t be crushed. We shall prevail. Still hope army can join.” These tweets were picked up by nearly every major news organization, spreading around the world–defying critics of the new medium.

What do you think? Did those tweets help change the world? Metropolitan Books will publish ElBaradei’s book, The Age of Deception: Nuclear Diplomacy in Treacherous Times, at the end of April.
