Last year, BookWalker launched an English version of the site, with little fanfare. Despite having titles like Hajime Segawa’s Ga-Rei, Kouhei Azano’s Tokyo Ravens, and Moroke Yoshida’s Inari Kon Kon, little attention was paid to the service, either because of sites not covering it, or little marketing of what they’re trying to do. This year ... Read more

Hi, My name is Justin. I have read scanlations. Don’t hate scanlations. Back in 2006 or so, or whenever I was a high school student, my interest in manga was nonexistent. I picked up some volumes back in middle school, but ultimately threw them away (I weirdly still kept Psychic Academy), and stuck mostly with anime ... Read more

I’ve read the Freezing manga. The manga was never licensed in America however, so that meant I had to read the scans. There’s generally a moral viewpoint when it comes to scans, but mine is simple: If it’s not licensed, it’s fair game. If it is licensed, you either: Drop reading the title and wait ... Read more
It started as a child, where she, in 3rd grade, witnessed Inuyasha. She thought it was cool to cosplay, or at least, she had seen pictures in 2007, and joined in, which helped her break out of her shyness and allowed her to meet new people. None of this necessarily meant Marlene First would become ... Read more

Finding a new manga title that you enjoy is awesome. You pick up volume one on a whim, and twenty-four hours later you are obsessed. To add to your resources, Comicraft (http://www.comicbookfonts.com) is another great font resource for letterers: their WildWords font is a standard in manga publication (more than Anime Ace, in my experience? I’ve never used that one in my books…) and I like a lot of their other styles too for more specialized uses. FontSquirrel.com is a nice site that rounds up free-for-commercial-use fonts (this is important to note!! much of Dafont’s selection is only free for personal use, not commercial). Google’s free webfonts can also be downloaded and used for commercial publication. Then again, some publishers provide their own font library for letterers to use, while others let you supplement their selection only with free-for-commercial-use fonts, so it may be wise to find out what’s expected from the publisher you’re applying to before you invest a fortune in fonts.
Thank you, lys! The additional resources are much appreciated. I definitely agree, touching base with the publisher first is key when working as a freelancer.
