Playing Right Field
Ages 4-8
"If I play right field, does that mean I stink?" is a question many kids have asked themselves when sentenced to this not-so-desired position. Playing right field is a book sure to help those concerned over their fate.
"Saturday summers, when I was a kid, we'd run to the school yard, and here's what we did..."
Welch's character is the last one picked and is sentenced to right field.
"You can be awkward and you can be slow./That's why I'm here in right field/watching the dandelions grow."
While watching the dandelions grow, he dreams of the baseball greats- Mays, Matthews... He loses track of the game, but is startled by his teammates' yelling when a fly ball heads his way. The boy's big play makes him reconsider the importance of playing right field. The artistic work of illustrator Marc Simont beautifully adds to the story that started off as a song by Peter, Paul and Mary, on their albums "No Easy Walk to Freedom" and "Peter, Paul and Mommy Two."

This is a view of Lake Tahoe from Heavenly Valley Ski Resort. It was a beautiful day! For most of our trip it snowed--magical! I just can't get enough of it. The kids stayed outside every waking hour of daylight. They took ski lessons, skied, sledded, snowball fights, snow forts. That's what childhood is made of. No one wanted to leave. Now that we're all skiers, hopefully, we'll go up there more often.
