Andrew Krivak has won the $10,000 Dayton Literary Peace Prize for fiction for The Sojourn and Adam Hochschild took the $10,000 prize for nonfiction for To End All Wars.
The Dayton Literary Peace Prize Foundation also picked two runners-up: Nanjing Requiem by Ha Jin and Day of Honey by Annia Ciezadlo. All the winners will be celebrated at a ceremony hosted by journalist Nick Clooneyin Dayton on November 11th.

The winners of the first annual Indie Booksellers Choice Awards have been announced.
The following five books were selected by independent booksellers: The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi (Night Shade Books), The Instructions by Adam Levin (McSweeney’s), The Singer’s Gun by Emily St. John Mandel (Unbridled), Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes (Grove/Atlantic), and Wingshooters by Nina Revoyr (Akashic).
The five winning titles will be displayed in participating independent bookstores throughout the country. Comedian David Rees hosted the awards ceremony at the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe in New York City.

Author and military veteran Karl Marlantes (pictured, via) has won the $5,000 William E. Colby Award for his novel, Matterhorn.
Marlantes will accept his prize at the Pritzker Military Library’s 2011 Liberty Gala. Matterhorn was inspired by Marlantes’ memories of serving in the Vietnam War.
Author and Colby Award co-founder W.E.B. Griffin offered this quote in the press release: “Matterhorn is a powerful first work that defines the tragic cost of the Vietnam War in human terms. Marlantes’ breakneck writing style is both passionate and haunting, thrusting the reader into alternating moments of chaos and courage reflecting the fragility of our Marines on the ground – and their leadership – in combat.”
