After such wonderful time with The Queen (and Poppi), it was time to get back to work. My parents really love me, but had no interest in seeing me at work. Yet. So off they went and I got back down to it.
This is a sad post, as it is a stop at the Curious George Bookstore, which has since closed. It was a really cute store.
It was located right near HARVARD. This is the view from the parking garage. Look all acedemic, New England, autumny goodness.
And I have to say, there is just something about being on/near a college campus. I feel all that energy, that potential. It is catching.
Anyway, after finding my way (that was me, the dork walking with a Garmin GPS) to the store and finding my way around the construction to get into the store.
But the best part was when this crew walked down the stairs (one had to duck!).
This is my family. Cousins. Who live about 1.5 hours away. And saw my event on my Twitter feed. And came unannounced. And made my day.
They are the kind of family that you see and no time has passed, and the conversation weaves around the past and the present and the future. Unspoken family traditions, remembered family events and unique family mannerisms just reinforce who you are and who you will always be.
Thanks guys!

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. A chance to pretend to be someone else – hmm…. sound familiar?
Anyway, my kids picked well this year, I had a Mad Hatter (she doesn’t want to share…), a Ninja and a Pirate.
I embarrassed them by taking them to school in my own costume
We didn’t do much decorating around our house:

Pretty Dead around here....
But our good friend invited us to a little pre-trick or treat gathering and they pulled some crafty deco’s -from stuff around the house. Totally cool.

Very interesting, especially when she talks about designers openly talking about planned obsolescence.

Again, I learned about this guy from Ms. Bird. She finds the coolest things, I would gladly be the curator of her museum….

This past few weeks have been big “life cycle” weeks.
First, our Beta fish of over two years laid down on the bottom of his bowl and didn’t move again. Not sure how this happened, he’s been hanging near the sink in the kitchen with me for some time and survived inconsistent feedings and an often dirty bowl. My husband theorizes that the pancake griddle was too hot and too close. I don’t know if I buy that, they are Tropical fish. And that guys was a tough bugger. He had survived an escape attempt and adventure into the armchair cushion while I was on the phone for the first time with Wonder Kay,* my wonderful publicist at Sourcebooks in the beginning. (Oh still lots of stories to share about her). She, (Kay), alas has moved on to the adult trade (books) and I am now with Amp-It-Up April. But hopefully, Kay will remember Skullwing fondly as her new author squeeled and searched for kid’s missing fish. Found and floundered and yet swam happily on his way that time. Not this time. So RIP – Skullwing. Here is the sign made for him by my children:
Then, we had a visitor. A vulture found a morsel in the front yard. Or maybe he packed his lunch. Very interesting and on telephoto lens very gruesome. It has been blurred for your viewing protection. But he is an interesting looking fellow.
So kids took this all in stride. Scientific with a little sadness for Skullwing.
