Val Willis is connected to an extraordinary number of people through two things:
- My Horse, My Passion: Riding tips for all ages, a book written by her daughter, Kenra, when Kenra was 11 years old; and,
- Val’s energetic way of spreading good cheer to as many people as possible.
On this edition of Just One More Book!!, we discover how a children’s book and an energetic soon-to-be 88 year-old woman has changed people’s lives.

Thank you to This American Life and everyone at PAB2008 for the inspiration and motivation to create this program.
James Dashner, author of The Jimmy Fincher Saga, has a new book coming out called The 13th Reality. I haven't read any of Mr. Dashner's books YET (don't shoot if you're a fan), but I like the way he is promoting his next book and supporting a charity all at once.
In brief, he is donating 100% of the royalties he earns on The 13th Reality the week of its release.

Full Disclosure: Although I haven't read his books, I met him at LTUE last week and think he is first-rate.
What a wonderful, inspirational way to start my Monday. Once again you’ve put together some wonderful audio journalism!
Thanks, Terry!

Just last Monday as I listened to a CBC show on podcasts, I heard you interviewed about this show. Although I found the idea for your show to be very interesting and felt you were doing a great service, since I am no longer involved with younger children and never listen to podcasts, I did not think I would ever listen in. Well - tomorrow the alumni website for high school shuts down ane I went on it to jot down a few things I wanted to follow up. One of these was to contact the mother of a late friend of mine from 5th grade. So, I went surfing on the web for “My Horse My Passion” and here I am. The interview with Mrs. Willis was delightful to hear. Would it be possible to contact her? Or at the very least, could you forward a communication to her from me? Kenra taught me to ride and draw horses. I can still do a recognizable impression of dobin on paper, but regrefully, any skills I had in the saddle have probably been long forgotten. However, I will never forget my wonderful times on horsebakc and my wonderful and talented friend. Kenra.
Cora,
What an amazing coincidence! I’m so glad you found and enjoyed this piece of audio.
I’ve added Val’s contact information to the end of this post.
Thanks for listening and for taking time to share your own story.
Hey you two.
Wonderful work.
It’s just as great for what you left out as what you left in. Lean editing. Nice music choice. Wonderful story. Congratulations on all of your hard work. It paid off and you made it sound easy in the process.
And I don’t have any kids or any interest in kids books. What the heck am I doing listening to this?;)
