1. My Thanks to ZEBEE, the Delightful Laughing Zebra.

This is a "thank you" to a four legged, stripey critter, that grew from the imagination and talent of Joy Delgado -

Zebee - the Laughing Zebra!
and

Once a week, for the past 6 weeks, Zebee has invited me
to sit with him and his zoo friends, at
Zoopriseparty-Fiesta-Zoorpresa and read them stories from
my rhyming series about US
and Australian animals.

Now, Zebee and the gang are oh-so computer savvy. They love
clicking the icon on my laptop screen. That brings up each rhyming
e-book. Of course everyone wants a go at turning the FlipBook
pages. And a scuffle or two often happens, when one certain
critter tries to get two turns in a row - critters will be critters!

When it rained, we sat snug inside the cafeteria, while Zebee
clicked the link that took us to "Down-under Fun." There,
they all discovered extra fun facts about all the Aussie critters
in my books.

And when the whole zoo had the sniffles, and everyone was
too miserable to play outside, Zebee clicked the link to
"Wild US Critters" and they learned more about the US
animals in my books.

Zebee is going to the veterinarian for a check up next week. This
makes his legs wobble, and his nerves go t-w-a-n-ggggg!! I've
loaned him my laptop full of cool stories to take his mind of things
while he waits his turn. Sweet eh!

I've told Zeebe and his friends they can visit my website any
time, and listen to a Qlippit of me reading my books, while they
watch the great illustrations slide past. And when all the zoo's
animals go for a ride in the zoo van, Zeebee knows to take his
laptop along. It is loaded with e-books, or books on CDs, and this
will stop them wrestling and squabbling together in the back -
meaning driver Joy won't get all antsy and ground them!

You can't beat a paper book to snuggle up in bed with and read,
but my e-Books and books on CD are great fun during the day.
Educational too!

Thanks a bunch, Zebee. Now I really understand you much
better, and I enjoyed reading my stories to you and your friends.

See ya next time - when I have a new book out!!

Big hug from your good mate,
Margot
Finke

2. BLESSINGS, THANKS and GREAT NEWS

Blessings FIRST

"Rattlesnake Jam," my fun book for boys
and reluctant readers, is now published by G.A.P.

and. . .

I have 2 more books being published by G.A.P.

Ruthie and the Hippo's Fat Behind
A small girl doesn't react well when her family moves to
another state.
She becomes a brat! Then, something arrives
that made
all the difference for Ruthie.
+
Horatio Humble Beats the Big "D"
Horatio couldn't read. Words just jumbled together on the
page.
His friends would laugh at him if he went to Special
Classes.
But GO he did: and the results amazed him!

and the
GREAT NEWS!

Guardian Angel Publishing and Kevin Scott Collier
are going from strength-to-strength.

CEO, Lynda S. Burch, is publishing books that are getting all
the right attention in all the right places.

How do I know this? Because I am lucky enough to be one of their authors
- "Rattlesnake Jam" is my 7th children's book.

Lynda encourages her authors and illustrators to get together and
brainstorm promotional ideas for their books, and help each other find
success. She is also pretty good at thinking up new and out-of-the-box
ideas for us herself!!

When a group of writers and illustrators who are passionate about

children's books, join together with a publisher who is equally
dedicated, wonderful books, for kids of all ages, are written and
published. G.A.P is definitely a publisher parents can trust.

And Kevin Scott Collier was there with
Lynda at the beginning of G.A.P.

Kevin recently won awards for his quirky and delightful illustrations.
Now he tops that, by being invited to star in a new children's television
program to be produced by
KICKS Club TV Org.

This will debut on major Christian broadcast networks in early 2009.
ABC
Family also has the option to pick it up. It will be syndicated in
Europe, Africa, and Australia.
Tentatively titled "Drawing for Kicks."
it will be an instructional program for kids in
illustration, and will
feature my books and art. Shooting begins at Studio 85 in Sunbury,
Ohio,
this fall.

I am thrilled to share these
Blessings, Thanks and Great News items
with all of you.

4. How To Make Your Next Public Reading More Exciting

Most people are scared to death of talking in public. By the law averages and the fact that lots of shy people to end up writing, most writers are even more scared of reading in public.

A couple weeks ago, I took some lo-fi video of the Happy Ending reading series in New York. The event celebrated the literary journal, A Public Space, featuring an amazing list that included Ian Chillag (a producer at NPR's amazing Fresh Air) and my favorite National Book Award nominee, Jim Shepard.

The event was hosted and founded by novelist Amanda Stern, and I've turned my footage of her engaging reading into a lo-fi primer on how to make a better reading when you are sharing your stories, novels, or journalism.

5. How To Break Your Writing Funk

haircut2.jpgWhat do you do when you are in a writing funk?

I was feeling swamped by all my projects this week, and I tried everything to raise my spirits: the gym, a glass of whisky, and a book by my favorite writer. Nothing worked.

Then, last night, I went out to a reading.

I took some video, and I'll show you something if I get the time. The reading celebrated the literary journal, A Public Space, featuring an amazing list that included Ian Chillag (a producer at NPR's amazing Fresh Air), fiction writer Jack Livings, and my favorite National Book Award nominee, Jim Shepard. And a band, just to break things up...

The event was hosted by kooky novelist Amanda Stern, who actually ended up cutting Ian's hair by the end of the night. It was a friendly, free community that I didn't even know existed.

If you feel swamped, hopeless, or writers-blocked, just go to a reading and meet some new writers, just like the Happy Ending reading series. Within five minutes of sitting down, I remembered why I love writing. That's all you need.
