1. Publisher Two Dollar Radio Raising Funds for Film Division

The indie publisher Two Dollar Radio has launched its own micro-budget film division called Two Dollar Radio Moving Pictures.

They hope to raise $50,000 with a flexible funding campaign on Indiegogo for the film division. Here’s more about the campaign:

Our hope is to produce films with budgets in the $7,000 – $10,000 ballpark … We have already optioned 3 feature film scripts, which are presently in pre-production. We are exceptionally giddy about each of these, and their potential. We will be updating this page with information on each of them starting Tuesday, September 24.

2. Mediabistro Book Club Returns to Los Angeles

0912_bookclub_150x100.jpgYou can read all the online book reviews in the world, but nothing beats real-world conversations between readers, and authors. To help our community grow, we will host our second West Coast edition of the Mediabistro Book Club tonight (October 11th) in Los Angeles.

Follow this link to RSVP for the free party at the Viceroy Santa Monica Hotel. The book club will feature loads of free books, short readings by four authors, and the chance to meet editors from The Los Angeles Review of Books, Slake and GoodReads.

3. National Book Foundation Announces 5 Under 35 Honorees

nba.jpgSince 2006, the National Book Foundation (NBF) has hosted the “5 Under 35″ award ceremony to highlight the achievements of five young fiction writers.

Today, the NBF has narrowed down this year’s pool to five honorees. This year recognizes the following titles:

The Sweet Relief of Missing Children by Sarah Braunstein

The Orange Eats Creeps by Grace Krilanovich

The Tiger’s Wife by Téa Obreht

How to Escape from a Leper Colony by Tiphanie Yanique

Once the Shore by Paul Yoon

Like last year, the “5 Under 35″ celebration will take place in Brooklyn’s powerHouse Arena at the start of National Book Awards Week on Monday, November 15. Musician/Author Roseanne Cash will act as the event’s host. Music journalist Rob Sheffield will be the beat-master in charge as DJ. Author Amanda Stern will conduct interviews with the honorees, winners and finalists during the party.
