This song is factual (the wreck took place November 10, 1975) - but Gordon Lightfoot makes it feel like something out of myth.... This is a very moving video accompaniment...

I remember this. The loss of the ship, the search. My dad was a wreck diver on Lake Michigan in those days. The E Fitzgerald was a loss that brought home the fact that the "historic" ships he searched for was part of a current and ongoing story.
This song, when it came out, became an immediate favorite. Somehow... it pierces the illusion that myth is a distant part of the past.
The gales of November may come early again this year. May everyone stay safe.
