Ari can’t help feeling lost and alone. With teal eyes and freakish silver hair that can’t be changed or destroyed, Ari has always stood out. And after growing up in foster care, she longs for some understanding of where she came from and who she is.
Her search for answers uncovers just one message from her long dead mother: Run. Ari can sense that someone, or something, is getting closer than they should. But it’s impossible to protect herself when she doesn’t know what she’s running from or why she is being pursued.
She knows only one thing: she must return to her birthplace of New 2, the lush rebuilt city of New Orleans. Upon arriving, she discovers that New 2 is very...different. Here, Ari is seemingly normal. But every creature she encounters, no matter how deadly or horrifying, is afraid of her.
Ari won’t stop until she knows why. But some truths are too haunting, too terrifying, to ever be revealed.
Review by Jessica
DARKNESS BECOMES HER, by Kelly Keaton is a surprisingly quick and addicting read. Kelly Keaton creates believable characters in an unbelievable world. She weaves real events into a fantasy world that you just want to know more about!
Once I picked this up and started reading I could not put it down. The characters stuck out most for me. I didn't get bored with a single one of them. They all had a voice and they all contributed to the story in some way or another. There are a lot of characters thrown at you at once but it doesn't get confusing and you can keep track of them all, which is something that I rarely see in novels with a lot of characters.
Ari meets Sebastian in New 2 and I love them together! I think they are my new favorite book couple. Everything they have with each other is raw and fresh, I can't wait to see what happens with them in the next book. I can clearly imagine them together and I actually want to swoon at them.
Keaton weaves so many different types of monsters together, and does so flawlessly. There's every kind of paranormal monster in this, plus gods and goddesses. It was refreshing to see something new. I can honestly say I have not read anything like this and I am eagerly awaiting the next novel! I highly recommend this for anyone who loves monsters, love, friendship and action!
