Every year Connecticut writers can enter the Tassy Writing Competition put on by The Shoreline Arts Alliance. The award is to help encourage and nurture the creation of exceptional quality books for children.
This year Betsy Devany was a finalist for her story titled, Ibbie-Rae Paves the Way. She has been one of the winners for the last three years making her the first-ever triple-crown finalist in the Tassy Contest. No one has ever been a finalist in all three categories: picture book, middle grade novel, and young adult novel.

Wow, congrats, everyone! And you have more in common than just being successful writers, you know….you’re all coming to our conference!
Thanks, Kathy, for mentioning this! What made me the first-ever triple-crown finalist was that I am a finalist this year (2012) in all categories open to writers, with each category having their own set of judges (one agent and one editor): picture book text, middle grade novel, young adult novel. I have been a finalist is previous years, an honorable mention in 2009, and won the middle grade category in 2011.
Hooray Betsy! I’m so impressed–three wins in three categories!
See you soon at the conference!
Thanks so much, Tara! Can’t wait to awe you! Hugs, Betsy
Phone typed “awe” you. Not far from the truth, as I AM in awe of all you do, but was supposed to be: Can’t wait to see you.
Thanks, Donna! I can’t wait!!
