DC has released a few pages of SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE the much-anticipated Superman reboot graphic novel by J. Michael Straczynski and Shane Davis. The book goes on sales next month.
This is a Superman for the 21st century.
With SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE, Straczynski and Davis inject the folk tale and legend that is Superman’s origin with a modern, vital and forward-looking energy that makes for a refreshing, epic and challenging super-hero adventure.
In SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE – the first original graphic novel retelling Superman’s origin — Clark Kent is a man looking for meaning in a new city and an age of failing newspapers, hand-held devices and instant gratification. But when you can fly through the sky and burn objects with a glance – things become a tad more complicated. Doubly so when a fleet of alien ships arrive on your doorstep.
SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE channels the best tales of Superman with a look toward the future, by two of the brightest talents the industry has to offer.
that’s a really, really tight shirt he’s wearing!
Not really “wowed” here, ill have to read the whole thing i think
Nice movie pitch.
Why is this called Earth One? It seems like such an ‘insider’ name. Doesnt seem like a casual reader would look at it and know what it is.
So on Earth One red is brown and good is suck?
Ehh. Doesn’t look like a Superman book, that’s for sure. Too gloomy and dark. Also, it’s using some of the same boring plot tropes as JMS’ “Grounded” storyline.
Well, the “Swan St.” sign on the second page made me smile. Not much else exciting here so far. I’ll certainly flip through it sometime to get a better look.
Doesn’t DC get it?
When is Superman going to be about escapism? Superman wasn’t a hit in the 40’s ’cause he moped around. It’s because he saw a problem that needed fixing and fixed it. No “build up” or set up. Down to action, smack the bad guys, go home. Sometimes more than once in a book! Now we’ve gotta pick up multiple chapters to get a pay off?
Get outta here…
well… looks somewhat promising so far.
Wait, why does Clark look so sad? Does he need a hug? A sandwich?
Good God this looks horrible. Will JMS have Lois sleep with Lex behind Clarks back and then have Lex’s love child? Cause that would be wicked edgy!!
If this were filmed 15 years ago or so, Keanu Reeves would totally be Clark!
Isn’t the dark and gloomy feel to the city purely because it is pre-Superman? It is Superman that cleans up Metropolis and truly brings it into the light.
I’m still looking forward to it just because it will be a Super title that will be accessible to me.
Tough crowd. Seems like a good start to me.
It’s your basic small town kid moving to the big city fish out of water story so far.
Doesn’t make me want to buy it, but it’s nothing to cause violent protests either.
Clark looks especially young in this Reboot of the mythos…
Is this DC continuity’s run-around the “Superboy” rights issue?
