As we find ourselves soldiering into our fourth year of Just One More Book!!, we remain in the process of catching up on interviews with illustrators that contributed original work to our Love of Reading Gallery — part of our second anniversary celebrations. Yes, we’re a little behind.
On this edition of Just One More Book!!, Mark speaks with designer and children’s book illustrator hopeful Candace Trew Camling about her contribution titled Bookworm, still reading children’s books at age 25 and the genius of Adam Rex.
Be sure to enjoy all of the amazing artwork in our Love of Reading Gallery.

This is a pencil piece I started last week and just finished for a show, despite the holidays and having a flu/cold nastiness.

A mouse inspired by the book illustrated by Beatrix Potter, "The Tailor of Gloucester". In the story, the mice make clothes out of the tailor's tiny scraps, and in the end save the day for the tailor!

I have been having fun watching all of the events, but I especially like track and field and gymnastics. It's cool too, because Shawn Johnson and Lolo Jones are from West Des Moines and Des Moines. I felt bad for Lolo when she tripped, but both athletes are champs in my book.
Anyways, my illustration is a homage to the Jamaican track team, who seems to be tearin' it up out there!! I still think I like the winter events better, but I always look forward to the Olympics.

A spot illustration I just completed seemed to fit well with this weeks theme of "detach", as literal as it may be.

I originally just did this illo for Monday Artday, but it worked for Illustration Friday this week too! I hope you all like it. I used tape and gel medium to create a texture on the board surface and then oils to paint the image.

This is a piece I'm working on for "Children and Families of Iowa". They are having a charity auction and much of the proceeds go to their charity.

Not to seem like the free coffee hound here, but...more free coffee today! If there is a Dunkin Donuts close to you. Since I live in the Northeast US, it shows I have 8 in an 8 mile radius. We need every single one of them. I love it.
Of course (cough cough), this campaign is blatently American. "America Runs on Dunkin'." Readers with long memories will remember how much I liked the campaign originally. I still do. But I have been checking our stats and IAG's international readership has grown tremendously. Thank you! (Or should I say, danke, merci, doh je, cheers ta and aabhar...)
So if there is not a Dunkin Donuts near you, perhaps you can print the page off and take it to your favorite coffee shop anyway. You never know what kindness a sympathetic coffee pourer might show.
Have photos from a weekend jaunt to Dartmouth in Hanover, NH that I still need to download. Beautiful place!
candace this is adorable! love the texture and how she is perched so sweetly on the spool of thread.
Very nice work. Nice coloring, texture and composition.
I like when mice save the day.
I had a mouse do my taxes this year and he found a bunch of deductions that H&R Block missed!
Beautiful illustration, as always.
Very nice image--clean lines & nice color. Cute mouse.
