Chris Oatley’s Digital Painting Series continues!
Some of you may remember that I featured the first part of this video tutorial series (Wookie Rage Part 1) as an early installment of the Tutorial of the Week series. In that post, I offered a friendly call to action to the tutorial’s creator, Chris Oatley to release part 2, because after watching Part 1, I wanted more.
To all our benefit, Chris went a step further and released Wookie Rage Part 2, as well as Part 3!
What I love about watching Chris Oatley at work is that you get an inside look at his methodical process of painting.
This is not speedpainting.
Each half hour video moves at a casual pace that allows you to observe the choices that are made and spend some time listening to the musings of the artist, which always alternate between insightful, resourceful, and humorous, but are always refreshingly human. In this series in particular, you can watch as Chris considers such things as composition, silhouette shapes, and contrast as tools to make an Illustration pop.
Chris is a positive light in the Illustration community, and one of the more rewarding ways to Escape From Illustration Island. Take a look at these video tutorials and check out his other podcast episodes while you’re at it.
