Earlier this year I reviewed Whose Tools? by Toni Buzzeo and illustrated by Jim Datz. I loved Whose Tools? for the subject, something kids love but also something there are few picture books about, and for the wonderful illustrations and engaging gatefolds opening to show the tools at work. Whose Truck? brings us the same great format and text - a guessing game - along with a subject

I love Jill McElmurry's illustrations, especially her work with Alice Schertle's Little Blue Truck books, that I almost don't even need the words. That said, Schertle is definitely one of the better picture book authors writing in rhyming verse these days. Little Blue Truck's Christmas does not disappoint, McElmurry's illustrations calling to mind a childhood favorite, The Animals' Merry

Lowriders is Space is the first installment in what I hope will be a long graphic novel series written by Cathy Camper, author, artist and librarian and illustrated by Raúl the Third. Like no graphic novel I have seen before and arriving with a raft of celebrity blurbs from the likes of Jon Scieszcka, Megan McDonald and Amy Sedaris, Lowriders is Space is about three talented friends and

Sally Sutton and Brian Lovelock are the creators of fantastic books about all the things that gigantic, hardworking vehicles specialize in. The illustrations provide all the details little listeners love and the texts are packed with onomatopoetic words that make these books fun to read and especially entertaining. Their newest book, CONSTRUCTION, begins, Dig the ground. Dig the ground.

I'm Brave is Kate & Jim McMullan's fifth book about things that go. When I was a book seller, these were my "go to" books for toddlers into all things that go. The McMullan's happen to be among the rare creators of picture books featuring garbage trucks. Considering the fervor with which many toddlers adore garbage trucks, I am always surprised by how few picture books about them are on

Giant Vehicles is the fantastic new book by Rod Green, illustrated by the master of cross-sections, Stephen Biesty. Eight enormous, real-life vehicles. From the Super Train to the Airbus A380 to the biggest helicopter, rocket, cruise ship, submarine, container ship and, of course, the massive dump truck on the cover, a Caterpillar 797F. Although this is a board book with flaps to

Steve Light, author and illustrator of the fantastic picture books Have You Seen My Dragon? and Zephyr Takes Flight is also the creator of a superb collection of onomatopoetic, transportation board books, the newest of which is Planes Go. From the seaplane that goes, "GGRRRRRRRRRRRRR Putt Putt Putt ssSPLAAASHH!" to the helicopter, the jumbo jet, the propeller plane, the fighter

Miles to the Finish is the follow up to Miles to Go, published in 2010. Miles to Go begins with the words, "Another day, another drive," as Miles heads off to preschool where he and his friends work on their cars. There are plenty of picture books with cars and trucks and things that go - most of which feature adults in the driver's seats. Miles to the Finish and Miles to Go stand out

Who Is Driving? by Leo Timmers makes me smile every time I read it! Timmers's book Bang, with the bright, cartoonishly-retro, detail packed illustrations that recall one of my favorites, Richard Scarry, made him an instant favorite. With Who Is Driving? Timmers takes a simple guessing game and makes it enormously fun for toddlers and parents, providing many opportunities for kids to
