I'm honored Eric. You know that blue is probably from cheaper fountain pen like ink. Looks cool though. It's fun to sketch with ink that runs with water. You can do some great washy things. Great blog here. I'll keep coming back.

Love the color and your comment about Sendak. I think it has that atmosphere. The piece just draws you in. The shading and the wash of the colors really give this piece a feel that just catches the eye.

Your ink work is always impressive in how you are able to commit to full shadows. Not a lot of artists are willing to hide the structure of their work fully for dramatic effect, but it adds so much mystery and drama when you do it.

WOW. I didn't think anyone out there even remembered Rocket Raccoon!! I have all four issues of the limited series right here on my desk in front of me, among my pile of 30 or so comics that I use to inspire my writing. Sadly they where published during the comic book industries cheap '80s 'four plate three color offset printing' days and the coloring looks like day glow puke, but the inks are wonderful.

Thanks Nathan! This was really fun to reminisce about, I love this comic and have really fond memories of it from when I was 11 or 12.

great sketch. i just read an excellent book about post world war one for a story im working on, but im not sure if the author wrote any world war one books, i'll have to check.

Which book is it Shane? I'm actually reading Paris 1919 right now which is also about what happened immediately following the war.

Does it work? (for not 'ruining' your pieces?) Yes - truth. But less is not always more. I read a quote about design yesterday (referring to interior design) that began with: “...Minimalism is a kind of emotional bankruptcy...a refuge for those who do not understand the grammar of ornamentation or the symbolism of colour."

Coordinate those two schools of thought as you will. :-)

Thanks Tara! It does work to some extent. As I said I only believe it half the time. That quote by Mark Wilkinson is all about interior design(kitchens in particular)he does go on to say minimalism is a good thing in art because we don't live inside art and we do live inside a room.
