First reviewed in 2009, Mac Barnett's fantastic quartet of Brixton Brothers books is an uncommon contemporary mystery that boys and girls will love. Steve Brixton, a fan of a Hardy Boys-type mystery series, The Bailey Brothers, finds himself embroiled in one case after another, turning to his literary heroes for help, often finding himself in deeper trouble... I'm sorry. I am apologizing

The Fourth Stall by Chris Rylander came out in February of 2011, right about the same time Jack Ferraiolo's book The Big Splash came out in paperback. These books have some similarities - middle school, fixers, intrigue. They also share the distinction of being the rare middle grade novels that are reality based, humorous and aimed squarely at boys. And they are both very well written. Do you

The Big Splash is the first novel by Jack D Ferraiolo, who has worked for over a decade in television animation and created and writes for the PBS show WordGirl, for which he received an Emmy nomination. Published in 2008, The Big Splash came out in paperback a few months ago. Both covers caught my eye, but I have to be completely honest, books set in middle school with boys as the main character
Billy Twitters and His Blue Whale Problem sounds like one for us. We've just read Billy's Bucket by Kes Gray and Garry Parsons and that ends with a big whale on the pavement - and the Billy Twitters book could be the perfect next step! Oh.. and Masquerade - I _so_ loved that book when I was a kid!
Excellent! Haven't heard of Billy's Bucket - I'll have to check it out. Glad I'm not the only one who remembers Masquerade. I loved the illustrations but had no idea how to figure out the clues...
Husband and 6 yo daughter are reading The Brixton Brothers together right now and both LOVING it (especially husband who was a huge Hardy Boys fan as a boy). What little I've overheard has been laugh out loud funny! Daughter is already lamenting that there is currently only one more in the series. Thanks for another great recommendation!
Super! My first positive feedback from a young reader! Also super to know that an adult fan of the Hardy Boys enjoys the gentle ribbing Barnett gives them... Happy news! Book 3 comes out October 4! Only two months to wait. Just added cover art to the post. Thanks again for reading and sharing your thoughts!
