They may not be as plentiful as vampire novels, but there are enough YA titles modernizing Jane Austen to keep a girl busy. I wonder, can the modern protagonists truly fill Elizabeth Bennet's leather slippers? This is the question I'm using as an excuse to indulge in a mound of Austen homages. My reading list (so far) includes, Posh and Prejudice by Grace Dent, Prada and Prejudice by Mandy

Call it a "duvet day." According to the Feb. 16, TIME Magazine, Brits enjoyed the aforementioned day, when their burg was blanketed in six inches of snow. Not exactly the snow dump we endured in the Pacific NW, but apparently the City of London doesn't own too many snow plows. Tim Burton's doing a live-action/digital animation version of Alice in Wonderland. This is Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Burton said the books are like, "drugs for children." Probably true, though I didn't see it that way when I was eight. Something tells me this won't be one for the kids, but I'm anxious to see the result.
It also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover and an Aussie unknown as Alice.

I sometimes wonder if two-thirds of the globe is covered in red carpet.
I learned the way a monkey learns -- by watching its parents.
Hard to imagine, IMHO, anyone topping Jane Austin. The plot, deceptively simple, contains social critique I don't see embraced by popular fiction these days. However, I'm very interested in your critique and will stay tuned for it.
