Why do I believe single mothers rock?
Because my sister has been a single mother for over fifteen years! Yep, I have watched her work her ass off in trying to provide for my nephew without complaining and without asking for help. She has done more than I can EVER imagine of doing if I were a single mom. Do I have the guts to have two or perhaps three jobs to make the salary I deserve to pay the rent, put food on the table, put my child through private school and have a savings? I know I don’t have what it takes because I am not as strong as she is.
After speaking and interviewing several single mothers, I have heard how hard and difficult it is to raise a child (or children) without a partner. Often we hear the horror stories of single parents and how they abandon or abuse their kids, but seldom do I hear the stories of the mothers (ok, ok and fathers) who have sacrificed so much to provide for their kids and they do not ever complain because they LIVE for their kids.
For those of us who take for granted what we have while having a partner or spouse, STOP whining! While we have a support system be it a lover, friend, husband or significant other…there are plenty of single parents winging it by themselves. They alone worry about paying the bills, paying for sports activities, managing their work and life schedule so they can be at the school plays or practices and they do this while being tired, worried, exhausted or on little sleep.
We are NO match for single parents because I personally feel they have twice, if not triple, the strength and guts we have and they will fight twice, if not triple as hard as we would, for their child or children. A single parent, be it male or female, will do whatever it takes to give their child whatever it takes to make them strong, educated and independent individuals and they ALL need to be recognized and praised for their sacrifices.
TO ALL SINGLE PARENTS OUT THERE….I PERSONALLY SAY….I RESPECT YOU! I ADMIRE YOU! AND I DON’T KNOW HOW YOU DO IT!
I find it amazing that while I sit around complaining about my significant other not helping enough, you are doing double duty and getting it done without complaining because you have chosen to do so.
Give yourself credit for all you do because I know I personally do not have the strength, courage and energy to do it by myself.
Single mothers rock! Ok, ok, single PARENTS rock! I will include the men as well since they seldom get acknowledged.
Life is good!
Eve
Eve, this is such a wonderful tribute to single parents the world over! I was a single mother. I raised both my children on my own until my girl was 18. It was tough work. But so gratifying! To hear my children say how strong their mother is, well, it makes all the sweat and tears worth it! Abrazos, amiga!
Dear Belleza! You have given me yet another reason to admire and look up to you. I often wondered if I would ever be as strong and courageous as my sister and the Bellas of the world who managed to raise their children alone….You ladies (and gentlemen too) are in a league of your own!
