Life today is shaped by yesterday’s battles. On my travels, I have visited the sites where epic fights took place. The victors determined the lives of the losers for hundred of years and changed their culture. This year I have spent time in the beautiful city of York in the UK. It is surrounded by a wall built by the Romans.
They arrived in AD 71 and set up camp. They and their future generations lived here and governed the territory for over 300 years. But, they failed to get the locals to speak Latin and few of them can speak modern day Italian. However, the evidence of Roman conquest is all around. Of the places that you have visited where battles took place, which one do you think has had the biggest impact on your life?
My book – Amazing People of England – outlines people who made major contributions to the country and culture.
