Grab the sick bag quick!!!! Yes, I know, I'm feeling nauseous myself. This stylish, understated object was a souvenir from a trip to Annecy. The aim of the day was to find the tackiest piece of tat possible. I WIN!!! There is a lot of tat in Annecy as Felicity can vouch for in her post on this beautiful town. This is a pot of beaver cocktail sticks. I don't know what the connection between beavers and Annecy is and, quite frankly, I don't think I want to know. This piece is hand finished in beautiful resin (the plastic kind). Charming, I'm sure you'll agree.

Oh no! You have dainty feet as well as pretty bras! Beautiful.
Thanks for visiting my blog, Andrea. My photos were taken just north of Builth Wells. (We live at Newbridge on Wye)
I can't recall how I found your blog - probably indirectly through an Illustration Friday blog of someone's. Do you enter that ever? I've been a regular of yours for a while now. Still waiting for that cup of tea. xxx
Really great! I'm amazed.
Lovely , your drawings are just delightful .I love the detail of these shoes.
Eileen
I love them, beautiful shoes, I think you should sell this one!! (to me!!)
xx
I don't know which is better... your drawing skill or your taste in shoes and bags!
May your pumps be beautiful, this drawings are for sure better!!
ooh, really, really lovely drawing! (wouldn't get my great plates in those little things!)
I had to come here too to see them in the context of your blog. Flickr definitely a nice definition but i love seeing your drawings posted here. It's like... they're home. Anyway, another brilliant piece of art right here. I think i would purchase all three because i couldn't make up my mind -- they're all so cute. But of course, they would have to be purchased online (the whole denial issue!!!). Love' em, Andrea.
Size 40?
Thank you all.
They are definately NOT dainty feet though. Size 41 in fact - so Gretel you probably could get your plates of meat in them! I actually drew around my shoes for this one so clicking on the pcture should shoe the exact size of the shoe. I think that's how it works??
Cheers guys.
Wow, great shoes Andrea. Love the shine on them as well as the delicacy of the whole painting.
I love this drawing. The colors and the details are so beautiful.
You seem to be obsessed with shoes. :)
oh so pretty. love the lines and the light.
(now i'm curious what size 41 translated to usa sizes would be.LOL)
You're just getting too good at all this....and wow, what a fan club you have. Congratulations.
I love each and every one of your new shoes. I hope you wear a big size so that next time I'm in Wales I can borrow a pair.
Hmmm...just read that you wear 41. I think I'm a 42. Perhaps you'd let me stretch them out?
Size 41! Wow in our measurement that is gigantic! We go in for sizes such as 6 or 8 to fit a typical Aussie woman's foot.
Lovely shoes. I'm not a shoe botherer, don't even polish them except for a funeral.
w.
These are so lovely!
I'd go for the middle one, or the left one...but the three of them together are simply wonderful. I love the tiny tiny lines you draw:)
Glad I found your blog*
Lucy
Wow! Wonderful!
... Lady Madonna children on your knees...
Andrea, you have a lot patience. the shades a volume that you get in your drawings is amazing. I hope you'll make lots & lots of money selling your drawing, hahaha, really!!! best wishes, Martín.
HI Andrea, et al,
Some have asked what does a 41 translate to in US sizes. It is a 9 1/2. Andrea, I have to tell you that my shoe I just painted is a 9 1/2. thus a 41. I'm sure they would fit you perfectly! A 9 1/2 is just right in length for me, but I've really got to get wide . . .
You know I LOVE this drawing!
Love your pumps...exquisite drawings. Just a wonderful touch you have...
Ronell
Damn Andrea - you never cease to amaze me. You are the true Velvet Texture Queen of the World.
I love the three shoe "heads", like puppets almost. They do seem to have personality. And that middle one really wants to be on my foot :)
They are so nicely done! Good work!
Ya know in my experience, art people aren't usually as hip with the clothing. Love the shoe, especially the softness in your renderings.
These are darling shoes! Love the shapes and colors.
I want them all, love pumps, and mary-janes, and flat slippers, hehe!
Haven't hear from you, how are you?
Sending hugs lovely!

Such soothing use of colour. I only have 4 pairs of shoes and no handbags or purses. Funny creatures, people are!
I just had the pleasure to see all of your latest drawings at once. Because I neglected your blog for to long ...
Your own style is more and more coming through. I'm as always very impressed. So beautiful. I think, the cat's toy is my favorite, but I love all your drawings. Beautiful!
Totally Gorgeous!!!!!!!!
Gorgeous work!
Thanks for the kind words everyone!
Renate, it's funny I was thinking of you whilst on the train yesterday and then there was this message when I got back. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your drawings vey soon I hope.
Cheers all, I appreciate your visits and comments.
Hats off
Your drawings are really great and its really tempting me to go for it.
I just purchased
high heels shoe from shoedeals4u.com, its really comfortable and the quality is also good.
I really love your drawings!

Finally a drawing I'm happy with. Like others, who completed this challenge, I found it difficult to find something yellow to draw. Then I realised the answer was under my nose!
This drawing took about two hours. I was watching and listening to a really old concert by James Taylor filmed by the BBC. Whilst listening I was thinking how his voice was like honey. I LOVE that feeling you get from hearing a voice that touches you. Imagine being able to do that with pen or pencil.
My Everyday Matters set so far HERE.
Wow! I love your style - and this one is just such a happy drawing! You're so detailed and interesting in your art!
Beautifully soft!
Andrea! Absolutely gorgeous!!! The textures are so real I could use those pencils right thru the screen!!!
beautiful!
Like I could reach out and pick them up!!!
I also love this drawing. Your refer to sepia ink often. I'd like to know more about that. Do you use a bottle of ink and a nib, a Micron pen, or what? And then is it finished off with colored pencil? Do you have a preference for brands of colored pencil? Your style is very appealing to me.
Oh Andrea! These are just beautiful, and they are so 'you'. It's wonderful to see you feeling like yourself again. Welcome back *smile*
Wonderful composition.
I love your beautifully soft style!
Ya coulda painted a jar of honey! Pencil points are certainly right in front of us, but it takes only you to notice!
w.
Ummm, I think you already do, with a pen or a pencil, give people that feeling. Those who love your work recognize you in each new piece they see, the same way you recognize James Taylor's voice in each song he sings... and they get that feeling! It's because you have your own authentic style, don't you know?
I'd love to be able to thumb thru your sketchbooks, the pages are beautiful.
Beautifully done! And, a belated happy birthday!
Just simply gorgeous Andrea!!!! WOWEE!!
Well they're just beautiful Andrea. I really like the way you have just drawn the tips. Fantastic work.
beautiful- yellow never looked so good.
and thank you for the flickr link - now that was a huge treat.
Wonderful drawing, Andrea!
Wonderful work, as always. It's great to see how you use different colours, and interesting that you're drawn to sepia more than black.
Please would you share which pens you like using?
PS, it was my birthday this week too. Cancerians unite!
Well Andrea, this is absolutely GORGEOUS! SO delicate and detailed and soft ... how did you get such sharp points on those pencils, I wish mine got that sharp! Beautiful, I'm so glad you're as happy with it -- as I always am with all of your drawings!
I love your pencils, they are such nice, subtle colors. It's weird, I love a lot of bright colors, just not bright yellow. It's good to know you're feeling happier with your drawings, but I loved a lot of the recent ones. Especially that room of Toby's house.
Back in the college days, a bunch of us went to a James Taylor concert, but wound up being totally wowed by someone we hadn't heard of till then, Carole King. Hate to give away my ancient age, but that waS 1871, Both of their voices sounded like warm honey in the sun. It was unforgettable.
Aaaw thanks everyone.
I am really happy with this - which is such a relief as I'm struggling to draw anything I like at the moment.
Sherry and Gillian - I use Pilot G-Tec pens. They come in black, blue and brown(sepia). I am really not that fussy about the products I use. I use just about anything that feels right. I use lots of different colour pencils - Karisma and Derwent in this picture. And of course I LOVE ballpoint which are probably the cheapest of products on the market.
Mariana - it took some time to get them that sharp! There is nothing more frustrating than doing all the sharpening to find the point has snapped off again.
Good with Colours - I am so jealous! I've never seen James Taylor live but Carole King too! Now that sounds like my kind of gig. Tapestry has to be one of the greatest albums of all time IMO. The song writing on it is just unbelievable. Almost every track is a classic.
Thanks everyone for the lovely compliments. I'm glad you like this one.
I continue to enjoy all of your artwork. The pencils are very nice.
Your drawings give me that feeling...
The anwers are always so near us! they look gorgeous!
Your drawing looks like honey too! I love the way music gets embedded in the art. These just glow.
I really love this! (and it's always great to find people who love sketching, handwriting and JT)
Superb illo!
Wow! This one is beautiful. You really did something yellow!
Oh this is wonderful! Absolutely fantastic!
With your permission i would love to link to this from my blog...please let me know how you feel.
Thanks
Dxx
Brilliant!
Thank you all for the kind comments.
MrsNesbitt I'dbe more than happy for the link. Thank you.
You sure know how to make something so mundane sparkle. This is beautiful! Golden and spectacular.

It's my birthday today. Thought I'd get a post in before it's over. A pretty unremarkable day really apart from the rain. It has rained and rained and rained. I'm watching and listening to The Who at Glastonbury. It's raining there too. Wondering about what the next year will bring. Who knows.
"Only love can bring the rain that makes you yearn to the sky. Only love can bring the rain that falls like tears from on high."
Happy Birthday!! May the coming year bring you many joys. And only you could make a dead bee look cute and fuzzy.
Have a really lovely day for your birthday, and those pics have such delightful colours. You are amazing. The world is amazing too.
w.
Happy Birthday! and i'm loving the colors on these.
Happy Belated Birthday! Love this beautiful drawing! The colours are gorgeous, too.
A quick 'Hello' from Den Haag, Holland.
Happy Birthday fellow Cancerian! (I'm due soon).
Happy birthday Andrea - another Cancerian (me too). May the year bring everything you want it too.
Those colours and the layering - beautiful. I hope the drawing funk is finally lifting.
What stunning layering! And gorgeous "me" colours.
Thankyou for this lift on a too-cold winter day.
Aaaw thanks everyone.
I have noticed that there ar quite a few artistic Cancerians out there. Is there a correlation there? Hmmm.
Unfortunately it does not feel like this funk is lifting. I just didn't want to keep moaning about it but it is SO frustrating. These drawings are old ones, from the archives (I'd do a much better job of the shading now!). I just wanted to post something. I have nothing to post from three days worth of drawing. SO annoying.
It is STILL raining.
Thank you all for the lovely comments and wishes.
Hope your birthday was a good one, rain and funk aside!
Here's how I look at the whole "funk" thing. It's a bit like the calm before the storm; the storm being a great bursting forth of fresh ideas, visions, and abilities that just need some time to "cook". So, get ready for a great storm! (Pardon the mixed metaphor... although, some people have been known to cook up a storm...)
From yet another Cancer:~)
Happy Birthday, Miss Joseph. Did you get all that rain I sent as a present?
It should be lifting soon.
Many thanks for sharing your work, thoughts and life. Tim xXx
Happy B. Nice post.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I am sure this new year will bring you love an joy. I hope it brings the rest of us...your beautiful artwork!
Happy Happy Happy birthday!!
Happy Birthday from yet another cancerian.
Happy Birthday!
I'm catching up on old EDM posts and found my way to your blog. I may have commented before, but it's worth saying again - I think your drawings are my favorites. I love the content, layout and the lines. Can openers - how delightful!
Happy birthday to you...!
Cheers guys!
I'm touched by all the birthday wishes - thanks!
Tim do you recognise this drawing? In fact do you recognise all the tings in the drawing? They're all yours! Well they were all yours when we lived in Wordsworth Street. They're probably all in your parents shed or attic now.
It is STILL raining - and even by British standards this is a LOT of rain.
Liz P - I like your way of thinking. In fact that is exactly how I'm going to look at this funk from now. I'm just getting ready for all those drawings that are simmering away. Waiting for the rain to clear the air!
Thanks everyone for your support. I am very grateful.
Happy birthday, Andrea!
Happy birthday and wow, do you make some amazing art!
These are just great!!! And its your bday...happy bday...guess i should read as well as look:>
Happy birthday and all the best for this next year!!!!
Oh Dang! I missed your birthday?!? Well Andrea, Happy Birthday + one! Wishing for you blue skies, warm weather and a bright lightbulb of inspiration overhead. :). But of course, I'm perfectly happy absorbing your older works. They are all awesome!
Happy Birthday Andrea. May the coming year bring whatever your heart desires.
Happy Belated Birthday, Andrea! Glad you had a wonderful day.
The image you posted with it, surely looks different from your usual stuff.
Happy Birthday from me in California. I am so much enjoying your blog! - Barbara
Yea Andrea!!!! Happy belated birthday. Did you know that our birthdays are a week and a day apart? Mine was June 16. Anyway, I hope you had a wonderful day. I'm really digging this drawing and would love to hear more about what inspired it.
Penblwydd Hapus i Chi!
(Late, but heartfelt!)
Happy belated birthday Andrea. You are an inspiration.
Wow thanks everyone for the kind birhday wishes. You know I didn't tell anyone I know it was my birthday - I don't like the attention - so it's quite funny that I've recieved so many kind wishes. Thank you all.
This is an old drawing. Ten years old in fact. I just took a load of outlines from objects in the house I lived in at the time and then coloured each of them. Layering the colours. I like the concept actually. I think it works. However the pencil work is really not very good at all but hey...
Cheers guys. I'm really touched.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! So belated, i'm sorry.
Was looking for you on Flickr -- when i should have come here.
Love the colors.
May this new year bring inspiration.
Love this song by the Who.
OK, here goes one more time, Oh! Happy Birthday, Andrea!
May your funk be no more!
OH, BTW, I do like the colour in these old drawings, alot!
Thank you both.
France I love this song so much. have you seen Quadraphenia? Brilliant. Definately a top three film of mine. The Who were great at Glastonbury I thought (I only saw it on TV). Some people say they are past it and shouldn't be singing 'hope I die before I get old', however, I think when you have SO many great songs you can show off as much as you like. AND Roger Daltrey looked great!
Cheers Kath!
Belated Birthday Wishes from me to you, Andrea ~ :)
HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!!!
These are amazing!I love the abstraction and jewel colors.
Sorry I'm late to the party -- happy belated birthday Andrea. I hope this next year is the best yet. I too love Quadrophenia. I think my favorite is also about water:
"I'm flowing under bridges,
Then flying through the sky,
I'm travelling down cold metal
Just a tear in baby's eye."
Something about the ubiquity of H2O... Have a great and no-doubt productive new year!
Beautiful drawings! And, I love the Who too. An enduring classic, to be sure.
Thanks for the wishes everyone!

I wasn't going to post this but I've been in a right old drawing funk this week and have nothing else to post.
This poor bee had been on the floor for sometime - days in fact. I kept on thinking I should get rid of it but then never getting around to it. This was Flower's (my cat) prey. She isn't big on hunting - actually I think this is the only thing she's ever caught. Well, with a name like Flower you couldn't be much of a hunter could you? She doesn't see the point anyway not when she employs somebody (me) to prepare and serve her food.
Speechless. Such an excellent piece.
Weird to say, but I keep imagining an army of bees just hovering above the surface waiting for an opportune moment to swarm in and rescue their fallen comrade.
Awwww, I just love cats. I miss my Sasha cat so much it hurts. She only caught me prey once, it was half a frog (never did find the other half) and she brought it in to me on my birthday! I had her 'till she was almost 20 years old. :) I love how you drew the wood, it looks like a photo! :)
Wooooooooowwwww! This is awesome! The wood grain is so realistic and ... well, poor bee. I really like the composition Adrea. I'll be back!
you should start a book from here ;))
soulmargui
I love this - especially the placement of the bee.
Your work is amazing.
Can't help but wish that most of it didn't have a fold down the middle, but I love it all!
Thanks guys,
Laserone - that is so sweet; how she brought you a birthday present (even if it was half a frog!). It is so difficult to lose a cat. My childhood cat was over twenty too, and I still miss her.
Gillian - I know exactly what you mean about the fold. It is a bit of a shame but I just love this Moleskine so much I find it hard working in anything else. I do try to do some drawings on plain paper like this poor bee. Thank you for the lovely comment.
Cheers all!
Andrea the wood grain is AMAZING!!!
So realistic. Excellent drawing.
Poor little bee! You've certainly given him a wonderful memorial - the wood is OUTSTANDING!! When you are in a "funk" with art it's still just phenomenal!!!
Your collection of drawings is so beautiful. Are you going to make a book or have an exhibition?
w.
So 'Flower' catches a bee!! Great little drawing and that wood is just awesome.
That floor - and the bee - is amazing. I presume it's coloured pencil, but it's beautifully subtle. and I love that you have drawn a dead bee.
This is REALLY wonderful Andrea!
Funk or not, your hand does amazing things! (maybe it's not always connected to your brain . . .)
The woodgrain is amazing. I have yet to master coloured pencil for anything more than shading
Cheers guys.
I really appreciate you taking time to visit and comment.
Wendy - one day soon I hope!!
Thank you all.

Joining the two pictures is interesting. Breasts, belly and legs - well that's how landscape is sometimes. There's rolling hills near a small Australian country town, Korumburra, that looks like this.
I like the sentiments in the writing too.
wow again... this is bueatiful, you must have such a lovely sketch book!
oops... i mean beautiful!
I look forward to more of your drives Andrea...The colors, the hills, the expressions you write...so interesting...thanks for sharing.
I've been lurking for a while and thought I should say hello and that I love your drawings.
I've spent ages over the last few weeks ploughing back through all your entries and I think my favourite is the red telephone button... although I adore your pixie people too.
Oh dear... those are the sorts of internal questions one asks after having been in a car accident... I hope everything is okay!
Chronic lurker here -- I discovered your blog from the Moleskine site and have had you bookmarked ever since. I love your work, and I also think the titles that you choose for your pieces are wonderful!
Thank you guys.
Wendy - it's funny somebody on Flickr mentioned this piece looking like a reclining nude. I hadn't seen that until you mentioned it - but your are right!
Rhomany - thank you for the kind comments. I'm glad you found my blog and the telephione drawing is one of my own favourites too. I love it because it was created with just two slightly different colour red ballpoints.
Danielle -thank you too for taking the time to visit and comment.I really appreciate it. And yep! I thought exactly the same thing after I'd written it!!! I really didn't know what I was going to write when I started and all that stuff just blurted out onto the page. I really hope it's not a premonition. Yikes!
Thanks Catherine and Pc4u! Cheers.
I love your journal entry's. Just love them.
Oh, I love your drawings, your perfectionist way.
I like a lot your daily topics.
Excuse me for my little english

Tag#5. Something you may be unaware of is that I have shaky hands. As somebody who works on a small scale and with such detail this could be surprising. People often say to me when they see my work "you must have a steady hand" - when in fact the opposite is true. I have to warm up, when I start drawing, just like an athlete or tennis player would. I have wondered whether this is where my cross-hatching techniques come from; because drawing a line is not always easy I tend to go over the line a few times to correct it. Of course there are drawings that I have created that are quite clean and simple; my cats, umbrella and Birkenstocks come to mind. One thing these drawings have in common is that I was really nervous when putting pen to paper. One shake in the wrong place and it could have ruined them!
The beetroot drawings are not really related to the post or the tag. I saw these in a shop yesterday and could not leave them behind. To me beetroots are so beautiful. Everything about them. The colours and shapes are perfect - and they taste pretty good too. These won't be eaten though. Just drawn.
That is fascinating to me about your shaky hands. Mine are often very shaky as well and/or my eyes have difficulty focussing. Maybe, seeing as you manage it, I should not give up drawing detailed work just yet! How do you warm up, exactly? Loose throw-away sketches? My eyes get so tired out the more I do that I tend to try to start with the more detailed work based on previous photos or sketches and try to only work for 15 mins or so at one sitting...
i´ve got very shaky hands too, so i tend to draw very quickly. i keep wondering how you manage to do such detailed and exact work. you never draw outside the lines. i keep doing that. now that i know that you have shaky hands, i admire your work even more.
Hi Andrea;
I keep marvelling how you take something ordinary - like beet roots - and make it seem so elegant!
Both versions are lovely. The plain one is evocative enough of the subject that it stands on its own beautifully.
I must admit though, I'm very partial to the coloured version. It just jumps off the screen!
Beautiful!
My hands are pretty shaky too! I sometimes think that I make myself draw lots of lines (without ever using a ruler sigh) just to rebel against that, or as an anal attempt to prove I have control over my body!!!
I love that you've shown the progression in this, it's fascinating and I wish I could see you actually drawing it. Beetroots are delicious! I started growing them in my garden as they're so beautiful and of course had to eat them and now love them. These are brilliantly drawn.
It is so nice to see both your initial drawing and then the drawing with colors. Both are beautiful! It's interesting to read your tag items with your drawings. And I'm glad to know you've found a way to deal with shaky hands. I tend to get tingly fingers...I think it's carpal tunnel syndrome from small repetitive movements.
Your work is very precise, so I'm surprised you have shaky hands! I hate my steady hand. I actually do my best to shake it up a bit so my line will have more character!
I love that you differentiated between tennis players and athletes!
I certainly never would have known! Now you're work is even *more* awe-inspiring!!
You shocked the heck out of me saying you had shaky hands! Your drawings are so precise and wonderful-it just seems impossible!! Love this one.
I can feel the weight of those beetroots ... it's incredible! This may be a cheeky request (or case of wishful thinking) but I would love to see you present a masterclass in your approach to drawing, for the EDM group, Andrea. You share such detailed close-ups with us and yet I remain as mystified as the moment I first click on your image.
I hadn't seen the cats before. Lovely!
Aaw thank everyone!
It's funny the subjects that resonate with people. It seems like shaky hands is one of those subjects! It's funny but I've met quite a few artists with the shakes. One sculptor who made the most delicate and intricate works. Interesting.
Mariana - I am really surprised to hear about your shakey hands (Ha!) as you work is so clean and precise.
Ksklein - I too draw very quick (once I've got into the drawing) especially when I start hatching.
Natalie - I like Mariana would warm up with drawing some lines. Or maybe some squiggley things, it doesn't take too long to get into it.
EJ - that is some compliment! I'm blushing. I don't know about me doing a mastrerclass but that would be a really good idea for some of the EDM artists to give masterclasses. I think that could prove evry intersting.
Thank you ALL. I'm touched.
I love the colour version, Andrea, so wonderful!
If you scroll down the pages so just the root and a little of the body of the beet show, it looks like they are dancing!
Both your beeroot drawings are wonderful Andrea! And I'm alkso including your previous posts here...the tea and your key. Your work is just always wonderul to look at and you skills can be only admired!
Ronell
Lovely!

Great job with the cross hatching. Even with shaky hands...
Love your stuff, admire your sketches. Found you from David's awards. I was on blogger also under 'toiletpaper', but jumped ship over to wordpress.com with a new blog. Take a peek if you'd like.

Ever wonder if all that tea consumption contributes to the shakes? As a former devourer of mass quantities of delicious coffee, I always kind of knew where my windows of straight-line opportunity lay during a given day. Drawing is much easier now since kicking the caffeinated beast.
Now I have nothing but a couple years of steady-hand in front of me until the inevitable arrival of our good friend arthritis.
Beautiful! I don`t like beeroot but I like your drawing. Very much !!! Epecially the color version!
Thank you everyone,
I really appreciate your visits and comments.
Meeting Neil - he he! You could have a point except I've been shaky all my life! Also, a lot of the tea I now drink is caffiene (sp?) free. I too used to have a coffee habit like yours which is exactly why I swapped to the healthier option!
Cheers guys.
After reading all the comments on your post I'm thinking there may be a place for a "shaky-handed artist group". I'll be the first in line to join! I also put a lot of detail into many of my works and am always rather startled to hear the "you must have steady hands" comment.
I'll join the shaky hands club! lol
Your beetroot drawing is wonderful!!!
Your shaky hands reminds me of an instructor I had years ago. I was in a micro-electronics repair course - most of the work we were learning to do was under a high power microscope. One of the instructors was always drinking coffee - in the days before decaf - and had perpetual coffee jitters. But when he was doing a demonstration of technique he became steady as a rock. Amazing what concentration can do.
Thanks for sharing.

Doesn't it seem that the purpose of art is to help us find the key? Do you think it will help? Do you know what you are looking for?
"in my life"...another Beatle reference perhaps? :-)
Great work by the way. I have seen a change in your approach. Is that by design?
This is magical! So much to delight the eye and provoke me to ponder.
But what will you do with it if and when you find it? And which key is it that you are looking for specifically??
The big key is just too wonderful!! And so are all the little keys, and the other items, and the words, and the numbers (?), wow!
Thank you Emma and Bill.
Bill, yes, yes and no! What interesting questions. I definatly believe that creativity will help find the key, perhaps it is the key? I've seen blocked creativity in people close to me and it's not a healthy way to live, IMO. I really don't know what my life would be like without drawing now. I realise that it is more than a hobby or even a passion. I NEED to draw. I HAVE to draw.
It is indeed a Beatles reference - one of my favourites actually.
And finally, I too have seen a change in my approach. It is not by design - I'm just going with the pen. I'm enjoying the journey and am very interested to see what it reveals.
Thanks so much - and for giiving me so much to ponder.
I almost got my comment in before yours came through, Andrea, but I wasn't signed in and that made me lose the comment so I had to re-enter it, but here we are! Nice to see you! Have a great weekend (bank holiday is it? We have Memorial Day on Monday, so it is a long weekend for us, too).
This is so interesting! Great drawing!
*in awe*
It's gorgeous, especially so when it can mean so many different things to so many people!
Hey Andrea... can I borrow your key.... I lost mine!
I am in awe of your skills... wonderufl.
My goodness! I imagine you have so many people on here telling you how amazing your drawings are, but this one truly is fascinating. Looking at it close up you see all the fabulous details. Dont ever let anyone tell you you're anything BUT a fantastic artist. :)
Tom
wow. this one is phantastic. quite different from your usual style.
Thanks for the very kind comments.
It's not one of my favourites. It didn't turn out how I'd imagined in my head! I think that the key maybe stands out too much. The colour is really quite dramatic. I guess that's what you get for using metallic pencils.
Cheers everyone.
well, it´s great anyway, and i like it, that the key stands out.
btw: i wanted to ask you for some advice, but i didn´t find your email address.
Fantastic! I like the way the key stands out. For me it shows how important creativity is for finding the key to your self. And I totally agree with you on the subject of creativity being the key. I too have seen people with blocked creativity....and what a totaly different life you can have if you set it free.
This sketch is just wonderful! I love work that you can come back to, again and again, and notice a different thing each time. So many little details and thoughts.
bThe detail in the background is lovely!
Thank you all!
Jeanette - thanks, that's a really good way of looking at it. I hadn't thought of that, but I guess sub-conciously that's what I was getting at. The key does show how important creativity is which, of course, is why it stands out so.
Cheers.
great drawing! combining a 'realistic' key with doodling! Perf way to illustrate your point.
WOW! This is absolutely incredible!! This is a piece that needs lots of viewing time -- time to really wander along the lines! Fascinating!!
Wonderful illustration! You truly are a cool artist =)
Astrid
The key is magical. Can you close your scatchbook with this key in it?:)
I feel like looking for a key to myself all the time. I only started drawing yesterday (after a long long break) and I'm already feeling better and closer. I feel too that drawing is a key and magic.
I LOVE your soft style!

I pottered around the house all day today - like I had nothing else to do! I would actually love to spend all my time pottering. I can't think of anything better to do. Apart from draw that is. So these two drawings are a combination of both of those things. One took around 15 minutes the other took considerably longer.
I thought I'd have a clear out; throw out some of the herbs and stuff that had gone out of date. I found that that was about 95% of them. I reconsidered and decided that actually most of them may 'come in useful in the future'. Take these porcini, for example, I'll get at least one more drawing out of them.
Oh these are totally gorgeous Andrea!!! WOWEE. Love looking at your art.
That jar is especially fantastic!!
Both of these are terrific. The color of the jar of herbs is stunning, glowing. I envy your pottering, too (I'm embarrassed to say I had to look that word up); at least we can potter vicariously through your lovely drawings.
lol! Not sure which of these I like the best!
I can barely remember those pre-baby days when I had the time to potter, or "pootle around" as we say in this household. Nice to know that your life is civilized enough to allow pottering time! Have you ever read "How To Be Idle"? A splendid book.
I like the greens in your drawing of the lime leaves!
Thanks guys!
Anthony, I did wonder whether this word was used in the same context Stateside. Obviously not - but I liked the link!
EJ, that book rings a bell. I'll go and check it out over at Amazon - it sounds like my kind of book!
Cheers!
I love these, especially the jar. It brings back memories of my grandma's pickles. Love the green.
Andrea,
Having seen your beautiful artwork on a friends wall, I was just wondering how the general public buy some of your artwork? Specifically I was looking at the Childrens names that you have so beautifully decorated. My email is [email protected] if you have a spare moment to email me and let me know that would be appreciated.
A Ellis
Your artwork is so nice, full of wonderful detail!
Great drawings andrea..I'm also including the belts' comment here. I'm "pottering" as well a bit lately and struggle to find energy for constructive work!the belts are once again just beautiful in their rendering and I love the color of you kafir lime bottle. Great work for just "pottering"!
Ronell
I had to look up the word "potter". Yeah, that's what I love to do, too. Your drawings are gorgeous, like always!
I like very much the jar:great work !
Thank you all for the comments and happy pottering!
Cheers.
Your style is so serene, Andrea - a real delight to look at.
You just keep coming up with nice work. I really like the green jar which reminds me of my mom's pickles--same feeling as Jana's.
one amazing sketch after another
Good to see your artist's mind is never far away with the idea to draw these before disposing of them. I love them both...way too hard to pick a favourite :)
Charmant!
OK, so I should really say something intelligent, like, nice use of colour here, Andrea!! And incredible drawing!
I love it! Wish I had my own.
By the way, love how you present this piece off-center.
Technically: brilliant as always
Subject: dear God,you most definitely win!
"beaver cocktail sticks"
*has fits*
I know you don't want to know the connection, but i think it's because Annecy is surrounded by areas where the "marmotte" lives (i.e. the Alps). My cousin and i once bought a stuffed marmotte - yeah, that's beaver in French - around that area. Equally tacky.
Love the drawing -- and the fact you even kept this lovely piece of memorabilia :-)
Made in China, right??!!
the drawing itself is wonderful - i love those little beaver faces. and i love a tacky souvenir as much as the next person. but who knew....beavers on a stick. lol
i need to do some more travelin
I love it and I love the fact that you've made such a work of art from it.
I'm intrigued by the Bob Ross label though, LOL.
What else can I add? I love the drawing. A true Joseph!
Bravo! Only you could accomplish making a cheap tacky plastic souvenier into art. How DO you do it?
Sometimes a tacky piece of tat has the luck of taking the attention of somebody like you and becomes the muse of a piece of art. (After looking at your drawing maybe I should like the piece)
Thanks everyone!
I must admit to LOVING kitsch tat really. I just can't get enough of it! This is a piece I'm particularly fond of.
France, you know, I'm sure we stayed in some B&B or hotel called Marmotte. It's all making sense now. And yep, I would put money on this being Made In China!
Gillian, I had Bob Ross on my mind throughout this picture (I often do though!). I think it was those mountains - that was why I called it 'everybody needs a friend'; one of his favourite sayings. Aaaaaw, I still miss him.
Cheers guys!
In your hands, it becomes an object of charm. enjoy your piece of memorabilia
Ronell
Great drawing , subject interesting! . I have been inspired by you to buy some sepia drawing pens.Usually work in black.
Thanks for your good wishes, it is on until 27th August ,if you do come let me know. Eileen
Andrea, I'm sure you could get help for your Bob Ross infatuation. You're away up in the happy little clouds. LOL.
BTW, yes - I am on Flickr - but only recently. xxx
Andrea, this is wonderful!! Definitely beats anything I saw that day! Hand finished - I love that. By some poor person working near a conveyor belt probably! When I see tat (there is so much of it these days) I can't help wondering about the factories they came from, I'd love to visit one!
BTW, is Bob Ross that guy that does oil painting demos on TV. If he's the one I'm thinking of then...OMG!!
I collected snowglobes (until last year when with over 300 they threatened to take over the apt). My only requirement was that they be the cheapest and tackiest.
And in your hands these tacky little beaver sticks are so charming and become so much more when you draw them.
Thanks guys!
Felicity, I have the same concerns about the factories that this kind of junk comes from. I don't think I'd like to visit one though - although it might make me think twice about buying stuff.
Oh and yes! that is the exact Bob Ross. There's only one Bob Ross and I LOVED that man. Unfortuanetly he passed away some time ago. I was devastated (as a lot of people were)to find he was no longer with us. I don't mind admitting that I cried. I've been meaning to do a post about him for some time - it's just coming up with the right drawing! This could have been it!!
Janey, 300 snowglobes!!! Now that's impressive.I'd love to see your place! Sounds Fab.
Cheers everyone.
It certainly is charming Andrea! You just make everything wonderful!
Oh my ... but it's so BEAUTIFULLY drawn, you've turned it into something quite precious.
Beaver cocktail sticks? Ok. The drawing itself is incredible as always. I love your work. I gotta say, though, that no matter h0ow tacky anything is, you do it wonderfully.
Thanks guys!
