I had a lot of fun with these! I'm going to have to rethink bright yellow fabric for backgrounds in future.
To the naked eye it looked fine after a few rollovers with lint tape. But after it was scanned, Vals hair was all over the place! Serves me right for leaving the bags of fabric on the floor for too long, huh.
Still working on babies for my portfolio. Since I had several illustrations I wanted to finish, it was easier to do some of the steps together on multiple illos. I don't know if it's quicker or not but it feels like it is. These are all at a place where I need to start adding stitches. Now, I'll finish each one by one.
I hope to have these done by Monday.
Working on some baby illustrations to add to the portfolio.
This week is "Teacher Appreciation Week" and I wanted to recommend a gift that my kids gave their elementary teachers. It's "Mrs. Spitzer's Garden" by Edith Pattou, illustrated by the talented Tricia Tusa.
Amazon book description:
Mrs. Spitzer is a wise teacher who knows many things. She knows about gardens. She knows about children. She knows how similar they are. And how they will flourish if tended lovingly.
Emily and Kevvy gave this to their teachers this week and I had them tape a school picture of themselves on the front end paper with a personal message to their teacher.
If you can't get this in time for "teacher appreciation" then consider it for the end of the school year.
Your childs teacher will LOVE it.
Yesterday was "take your child to work day". Emily and Jesse stayed home with me to experience the day of a freelancer. I had Jesse (nearly 15yrs) work on his 7 page essay that's due on Monday (since he hasn't started the blasted thing!) and Emily (10 yrs) was assigned a one page magazine poem to illustrate. I provided her with the poem with its layout and after she finished her sketch she decided what medium she wanted to work in. I figured she'd want to work with watercolor and colored pencils (it's her favorite) but I think the stash of papers I've been collecting was calling her name.
YAY, Emily! I love it.
I especially love the wet feet marks and how she decided to show the duck waddling away AFTER his swim. I would have gone a different way and I like her idea MUCH better.
Of course, we all know how frustrating writers/illustrators block can be. We were experiencing some of that so we decided a trip to the movie theatre might help a bit. =o)
I have my parents visiting this week and this is their little Pomeranian, Brittany.
I swear I did not put her up here. She was scratching and scratching at my leg as I worked on the 'puter so I sat her in my lap. Then she jumped up on the desk.
As I type this she is asleep, her face sandwiched between the keyboard and my Jack Sparrow toy.
I thought only cats did this sort of thing!
Sitting on the computer desk is a first for her and I'm guessing now it won't be the last.
=o)
