1. Book Boom in Aruba!

You see those piles of books? You see me - working with a cookie in my mouth to keep the blood sugar level steady?

In November, this month, Aruba will be Bumbarded with books. Children born in 2006 and their family are the main target, because they are part of a pilot for the new reading promotion campaign 'Buki Bum'. And whether they like it or not, they are the chosen ones and therefor designated to receive a beautiful bag with three high quality books, a CD with rhymes and songs, a brochure and bookmark FOR FREE...

IF parents with child(ren) born in 2006 participate in the workshop 'How to read aloud to my child'. Warning: the Buki Bum package is not, under any circumstances, allowed to be stored away, accumulate dust or, be handed over without the proper care, attention and reading skills needed to instill the love of books within your child.

This is a portion of the books, ready to get unboxed and packed by members (4 volunteers, including myself) of Fundacion Papiamente, - the foundation organizing this proyect for Aruba - plus their families and friends.

This is our president, still sweating moderately, walking up straight and without a Hernia.

Volunteering students are folding brochures. The bleeding paper cuts are still minimal, chats and giggles decreasing, determination steady.
It was day and it was night. And the more we packed, more books seemed to pop out of boxes we didn't know we still had; multiplying and filling the space, till there was no room for anything but laughter and joy.  <
