"It's history," I told them, "and I remember when his mom got married."
Groans.
"Everything you want to see is soooo boring," Philip reminded me. "But this is the worst. It's even in a church."
"Everything you want to see is soooo boring," Philip reminded me. "But this is the worst. It's even in a church."
"Nine minutes," I reminded him, "that's not asking much. I just want to see her walk down the aisle."
Emma looked at the royal pair. "She's okay looking, but he has a head shaped just like a potato. Why is she marrying him?"
Sigh.
It was a little dull. There's probably not much around more drowsy than British royalty. I remember reading once that Prince Charles was "madly keen on the science of sheep husbandry," which is about what you would expect looking at him.
I tried to get my kids interested. I pointed out the architecture, the dress, the hats. I wanted them to see the fairy tale aspects, the whole idea of a kingdom, of royalty. Wouldn't that interest them? Then again, my kids were never very big on fairy tales. I remember reading a few to the boys and the conversation went something like this:
"And then he chopped the dragon's head off, Mommy?"
"Well, no. There is no dragon. He's going to rescue the princess now."
"Then there's a dragon and they fight? And that's when he chops the dragon's head off?"
and so on,
So when Emma was born, I couldn't wait to read the fairy tales I had so ardently loved as a child. We got through Cinderella and a few others. Then came one with an ogre.
Emma sat up.
I thought, Look at that. She's going to love them as much as I did.
She pointed to the picture of the ogre. He looked something like this:

I had to laugh -- Cinderella's step-sisters. Eugenia and Beatrice, are Prince Andrew and Fergie's daughters. Fergie did not get a royal invite. And the tabloids and fashion mavens busted on the two girls totally after the wedding. I guess they don't care how ridiculous they look in hats.
I'm sorry you missed the kiss on the balcony. That was the best part.
Yes, Anne, I wish I'd seen that kiss - probably the most romantic part of the whole wedding.
The whole hat thing is wild over there. Very Monty Pythonish.
I thought the bride (a commoner), had more of a royal graciousness about her than the royals. Her whole family did not look out of place, which proved to me the royals are just like us. LOL
As for the daughters of Fergie, poor girls.
The bride was great - her whole family was, at least from what I saw.
Fergie's girls must be aware that 56 trazillion people would be watching them. What were they thinking?
Oy, the headgear. I'm not a hat person anyway, and the only one I liked was Mrs. Middleton's. After wearing this monstrosity, I wonder if Princess Beatrice will ever become known for ANYTHING else?
Idk, Marcia ~ maybe there are worse possibilities for her than to be known for wearing a skeetball contraption on your head.
I can't think of one, but there must be ; )
Lol @ the ogres and hats. I was hit with the idea that they're capturing intergalactic signals with that headgear.
I didn't watch the wedding. I have a poor attention span when it comes to watching things. I just skim over the news later.
Nobody watched the royal wedding here -- we weren't interested. But I'm with you about the hats. And for pity's sake, a Peter Pan collar? Surely those girls weren't serious?
I used to like hats, Medeia, but you're right about the transmission capacity of those. I found the wedding to be a little too pompous and skim - worthy.
I'm not sure what's going on with those Fergie girls. Their clothes seemed almost spiteful, if there is such a thing...
