This post is for anyone out there who writes for children, publishes for children, or is somehow connected to the children’s book business. I have an idea for a service and I want to know if it’s viable.
I have 15 years’ experience in education, including teaching English Lit. and school librarianship in all grades and types of schools. I’m also a huge fan of children’s books, well-read, and am very good at linking books+classroom activities. I know what teachers want and need and use: a mixture of fun activities and those which guide the reader and test comprehension. Oh, and expansion activities – the kind that ask the reader to go further. So in a sense, I’m in an ideal place for writing teacher’s guides – either free or for purchase with a book. And I could really use the $$ right now…but the question is: will anyone pay for this service? And, if so, how much?
Is there a market?
Who would hire me?
Thoughts?
And if you’re interested in having me create a Teacher’s Guide for your books at a cut rate (you know, to drum up business, get testimonials and referrals, etc.) please drop me a line.
