Kamelia is a lovely woman I met on Facebook who lives in Macedonia. She is a journalist, was a host of Night life Cultural programs and is now a documentary author making travel documentaries about her beautiful country. The following is her wish fulfillment story.
Kamelia could barely contain her excitement as the limousine navigated carefully down the street to the Kodak theater. To her left and right sat James Cameron with his date and Bob Shaye with his wife. It pulled to a stop and both men looked at her.
“Are you ready for the show?” James asked with a conspiratorial wink. They had spent the entire ride preparing her for what awaited her. Despite her pounding heart she nodded and exited the sleek, black limousine with their assistance. Flashbulbs flashed all around her like lightning strikes, taking photos of her from every angle. She was in an expensive designer evening gown, she was wearing Harry Winston jewels about her throat and dangling from her ears and clutching a Judith Leiber Swarovski clutch. She had spent the entire day being pampered as she had never experienced before getting a facial, massage, manicure and pedicure. She had gotten up and enjoyed a rare breakfast of caviar, smoked salmon, croissant and rich coffee then had spent the rest of the day at an expensive salon for the very rich getting her hair coiffed and her make-up applied by a professional for that evening’s Academy Awards.
She felt like a princess (or more appropriately for her age, a Queen). It had been a very long road filled with potholes, heartbreak and disappointments but all that had changed very recently.
After years of relentless perseverance and hard work, Kamelia had achieved all her lifelong dream and ambitions! Her screenplay, JANUS had been made into a feature-length movie by Bob Shaye with James Cameron directing and it was up for Best Film, Screenplay, Best Director as a few other categories (the reason for her flying from Macedonia to Los Angeles to attend the Academy Awards). Her book QUANTUM WOMAN CELESTIAL MAN had made it into the top 50 ranking on Amazon and was selling like hotcakes internationally. Cirque Du Soleil was even now rehearsing her play for its grand opening in Paris, France. Her income (which had been meager for most of her life) had suddenly swelled, enabling her to be able to move out of her little apartment and into a beautiful town home in her favorite city. She had been able to completely furnish it to her heart’s content and still had enough money left over to help her sister, Sanya and her daughter, Lita.
Now she was walking down the red carpet with Cameron and Shaye; giving brief interviews to the press vying for her attention. Two years ago she had been a complete nobody…now everyone knew her name! She felt as giddy as though she had drunken an entire bottle of champagne. After half an hour of endless posing and answering questions about her sudden fame and fortune she finally entered the Kodak Theater. She tried not to gasp aloud at the many famous movie stars, their gowns and jewels. Several of them came up to personally introduce themselves to her and comment on how lovely she looked and to wish her all the best; leaving her quite speechless.
Suddenly the lights flashed off and on; signaling the time for everyone to take their seats for the award ceremony to begin. Kamelia tried to pay attention to the host and all the other awards and acceptance speeches but all she could think about was the scrap of paper she held in her hand with her own acceptance speech should a miracle occur. She had rehearsed it over and over again in her mind but she was still nervous about making a stupid mistake.
After two hours, the Academy Awards was now coming down to her category: Best Original Screenplay. It had already won two awards for costume and art direction. BOS was the most important category to her, even before Best Picture for she was the one and only screenwriter on the project. James Cameron and B
