1. Children’s Book Week!

It’s Children’s Book Week! May 11th-17th, the Children’s Book Council celebrates its 90th Children’s Book Week with events across the country and the Children’s Choice Book Awards. You can purchase the Children’s Book Week poster online, or download the Children’s Book Week bookmark.

The winners of the 2009 Children’s Choice Book Awards were announced Tuesday night at an even tin Bryant Park with Whoopi Goldberg and Jon Scieszka. And the winners are…

Children’s Book Week Events

Tuesday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 13:
Chicago

Renowned storyteller Barbara Clark will perform three events to celebrate Children’s Book Week and the 40th anniversary of the Coretta Scott King Book Awards. Free and open to the public.

May 12: Bezazian Branch Library, 10:30 a.m.

May 12: John Pershing West Middle School Auditorium, 6 p.m.

May 13: Woodson Regional Library, 10:30 a.m.

Thursday, May 14
Seattle, WA:

National Ambassador Jon Scieszka visits the Secret Garden Bookshop to celebrate Book Week with teachers.

Saturday, May 16
Boston:

In partnership with the Massachusetts Center for the Book and Boston Public Library, Children’s Book Week will officially conclude in Boston’s Copley Square at the main branch of the BPL. Activities will also be held in the neighborhood branch locations on this day in celebration of Book Week. Participating authors are Paul Carrick, Erin Dionne, Kate Feiffer, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Megan McDonald, Sara Pennypacker, Michael Rex, Linda Urban, and Alan Witschonke. Join the fun from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. just outside the Rey Children’s Room on the main floor. Free and open to the public.
